Here's one of those fun(ny) things about languages. ”Therefore” can be directly translated as “derfor” in Danish… except, “derfor” is way more casual than “therefore,” meaning you can’t actually use them interchangeably, even though the translation is technically direct.

We are excited to share that we are the 2025 Locus Awards' top ten finalists for best magazine! 🧡 🎉 Congratulations to all of the fellow @locusmag.bsky.social finalists! locusmag.com/2025/05/2025...

If you like queer women making bad, bad choices, I have a few free audiobook codes for SUNBATHERS, my eco-horror sun-vampire book that is absolutely NOT, as one reviewer put it, "a great book to read if you're just coming out" unless you're also coming out as a cannibal (in which case... fair).

I've been doing this writing thing for so long now, and in so many different ways, and I know that you just need to find positivity wherever you can and shift your focus from A to B to C, but man, I've been breathing with a foot on my throat for the past year, and I'm so ready for it to let go.

Feeling so excited and overwhelmed and grateful on launch day for 💐 THE UNLIKELY PURSUIT OF MARY BENNET! 💐 Have been listening to the wonderful audiobook all morning in between writing the next in the Austentatious series (The Miseducation of Caroline Bingley)! 👗🥂

*That moment* when you discover the closing image and lines of your novel despite still needing to draft the last half of the whole damn thing = MAGIC

Look, authors really do need to promote themselves, especially in the attention economy of today, but it's when you stop promoting others entirely and only promote yourself that it can become distasteful and off-putting. That's my two cents on that, fwiw, since I've seen this discussed a lot.

A few times a year, I open applications to my Short Story Cohort, in which you and a small group will level up your short story writing skills, receive insightful critiques, make friends, and wrap up the three-month experience with three polished stories ready to submit to markets. More in comments.

I say this every year, but in case anyone else needs to hear it: not everything you write/create needs to sell or have some deeper purpose. It’s okay to experiment, to not worry if every sentence is perfect, to just write something for the fun of it that no one else needs to ever see.

Definitely has my recommendation, fwiw! 👇

I've got three books pre-ordered that'll release soon and there's still time for everybody else to pre-order! @mstevensonbooks.bsky.social's BEHOOVED. @pkennedywrites.bsky.social's THE ARTIST OF BLACKBERRY GRANGE. @lindzmcleod.bsky.social's THE UNLIKELY PURSUIT OF MARY BENNET. 1, 2, 3.... go!!!

New short story coming your way!! 🦑 This issue has one of the first horror pieces I ever wrote in it. Any other horror piece of mine came after, despite being pubbed before (as it goes). I struggled placing this & am DELIGHTED to have it join these amazing folks (that are way outta my league, lol).

When someone talks to you in their foreign language (and your native language), the best thing you can do is give them time to finish if/when they're struggling. You don't necessarily need to help them finish. You might actually be more helpful to them if you give them time.

I was just told that my launch event in Glasgow was going to be cancelled because I don't have *enough* tickets sold. Humiliating—not least because I worked my butt off for this book & went to other people's launches. If I could sell a few more today, maybe I could change their minds. Please.

Aaaand we're 40k into "historical witch hunting meets celeb and cancel culture" WIP 👀

Pretty sickened by UK's Supreme Court 🤮 So I'm opening my submission inbox to unagented trans authors in the UK until the END OF APRIL. I'm not currently open to general subs BUT if you're a trans author writing folk horror, weird, experimental, mystery, literary/upmkt fiction, take a look below 👇
