(Also, ‘Unwritten’ too. Hearing a bunch of Gooners sing that song at the top of their lungs while dancing around like no one was watching just perfectly encapsulates that pure magic and joy that we all felt.)

Same. When that song played in the stands I was half delirious with heat exhaustion, the emotions, and tearing up, and my mum texted the family GC saying, ‘Is this heaven?’ And I said, ‘It just might be the closest I’ll get while I’m alive.’
That song will forever be tied to that day for me.

areas outside of Europe, and with the youth visa pathway and other styles of loans to gain visa points, teams can be more diverse in the players they bring in and I want us to be one of those sides. Hopefully the additional scouting personnel will help there.

Personally I’m hoping we also start looking outside of the league and players we’ve seen in CL. There are 3 big tournaments this summer in COPA America, WAFCON, and the Euros. Hopefully we use those platforms to start scouting outside the norm. Lots of really talented players in untapped (cntd)

not yet having an announced manager, is a good deal of instability. I still think they’d sell for the right ££ but that could be a factor, as they may not want to lose another key player when they don’t have to.

Interesting as well in the background of losing club captain in Fahey, potentially losing VC in Hinds, not having nailed down extensions for key players like Nagano and Holland, and losing a loan player who they utilised a lot in the latter half of the season in Sam K from Bayern. That, plus (cntd)

so much energy into just getting to those points that you don’t have that extra few bits of strength to give to get you over the line. And that the season compounds on you and the overall level you have to grind means you can’t do it all.

No and I don’t think the point is that it’s the main reason why, I think there were a lot of factors that played into it. The overall point is that emotionally, mentally, physically, is it possible that you can’t do it all? That even if you know you’re doing well on 3 fronts, you’ve expended (cntd)

possible for any team in the modern format to do the quadruple?

FA cup at the stage we did and knowing we were unlikely to win the league actually is partially what helped us be able to give everything to CL and win it. It’s an idea I hadn’t considered, that actually some misfortune can benefit you in other ways. What do you think? Do you think it’s (cntd)

I was speaking to a mate today and she made an interesting point that the WSL can be such a tight league that it may have gotten to the point where you can’t fight for all four trophies and expect to win all four because the way the season’s structured means all the trophies come to a head (cntd)

lol if you had any say in transfers we’d have signed a Brazilian way before Rafa and half our team would be Brazilian hahaha. Maybe by the time Eva is making her first team debut as Evinha the squad actually will be.

I think we’ll see a bit more rotation this season. There was a bit of steadying the ship that Slegers had to do after coming in mid season. Couple that with her getting back to fitness at probably the time we least wanted to rotate the squad, I’m hopeful that we’ll see more fluency there.

She can play both RB and LB, as far as I’m aware (think she’s ambipedal if I remember right?).

season of insane loading isn’t easy. I’m okay with this option for now and I’m reserving judgment for what we aim for in terms of players elsewhere.

I know a lot of people want us to use our, ‘we just won the CL, come and play for us!’ might and go all in for every player and sign world class players in every position, but we’ve already got the best RB in the world and finding someone on a solid level that we can use to spare EF another (cntd)

Not the Liverpool player on a lot of minds but nevertheless a player I think doesn’t get the credit she deserves. A solid, versatile option you could slot in and play immediately, which isn’t nothing.
Seems Clare is in her, ‘the ones that got away’ era, as the kids say.

If you wanna write an article saying that Mario’s signing a lifetime contract or Aitana’s magically gonna come over and sign with us for the next decade (who *wouldn’t* want to experience this gorgeous weather), I think we’d all love that.

The $1.065m is inclusive of those $968k and up to $250k, yes? Or is it in addition to? Trying to work out if they’ll have essentially $2m or $3m to work with.

Hey, if Kimmy can do it…
(I was sad—what do you mean someone who hasn’t played in sixteen years with two bad ankles and a bad knee can’t do it—that I didn’t get it until I figured out that they only sent it to the lead ticket holder lol)

They know who’s gonna lead them to CL glory for the fifteenth time in 2040 and who they gotta rope in now. Alas I think you may be missing a few key qualities to make the squad. It’s a heartbreaker for you but sadly true.

And even more in a position where cover is so desperately needed and anyone who performs well could easily earn a place on the plane, etc etc. Rough for her in so many ways.

Tee you up a softer one: you’ve said that to beat Barcelona you have to be a mixture of perfect and lucky. In what ways were we perfect and in what ways were we lucky?

What do you think we did in our press that was so effective at neutralising Patri and Alexia? From first glance on the day it felt like the winger positionings helped with the overloads but what about the role of each of our 3 MFs? What did they do right to make their MF so disconnected?

who are as powerful as that tactic asks for, in a match where this may be our best option do you think we’ll see it more? Or do you expect that potentially a more conservative use of our wide players (if the FBs do invert+we don’t keep the wingers as high) will hinder that+ we play as we have been?
comment in response to

Related: we’ve seen a lot of times this season where even when we play a team w/ a high line + we get the turnover and try to counter, we don’t attack w/ speed and instead we delay until we get numbers forward, which usually lets the opponents get back into shape. While we don’t have players (cntd)

To me it feels like the MF+FB battles will be massive in terms of ball recoveries+ quick turnovers leading to counter attacks. Do you think we should stick w/ the use of the LB being higher as an extra attacker? Or do you think inverting the FBs into MF to provide cover + numbers is the better call?

Renee talks about the Arsenal way+ we’ve seen her largely (but not entirely) wedded to her way of playing. Do you think we need to change some aspects of this (play out less from the back, not pull the wide players as fully wide in possession, etc) to be competitive? Or stick to what’s been working?
comment in response to

Yeah, I’d agree it’s def better than last year+ it’s been nice to see them more able to grind out a result. Wouldn’t say that they’re doing phenomenally, been lucky at points but have been solid defensively (as is the LH way).
But absolutely agree having Sof back whenever will be a welcome sight!
