Denzel flopping in Othello is tragic for many reasons but mostly bc I would give my left lung to have been able to see l Lance Reddick, Andre Braugher, or Chadwick Boseman (in that order) do a turn as Othello. and they would have killed of that much I am certain

The upshot of the breathtaking speed of our descent is there's no illusion that if we concede a little now, we save anything down the road. The second we caved on trans care and immigration, we caved on abortion, gay marriage, social security, and vaccines. No caving thus far has slowed us one bit.

i have a student this semester who fully cheated on an assignment and has been emailing me non-stop about his grade in my class and if he can get an A+. like idk did you put work in worthy of an A+? we'll see

Jules finished this outfit tonight and Jess looks so groovy

I’ve been sitting on this news for a while but I’m now thrilled to announce that my solarpunk story, “After the Rain,” will be published by @escapepod.org in May!

The Trump administration cut a clause from federal contracting rules that had been on the books since the 1960s: Companies are no longer explicitly prohibited from having segregated facilities

Must read: Mahmoud Khalil speaks out for the first time since his arrest by the Trump administration in an exclusive letter, dictated over the phone to his family, from ICE detention in Louisiana.

Call your GA Representative (ie the one in ATL, not the one in Washington) and tell them to OPPOSE SB 74 because you support librarians and also don’t want to ban books. The new law, which punishes librarians for distributing “harmful” material to minors already passed the GA Senate.

"Six former Bhutanese refugees living in Pennsylvania — who have legal residency in the U.S. — were detained by ICE." www.inquirer.com/news/pennsyl...

Stop and think about a person being picked up, identified as beyond legal protection based on a tattoo, and then sent to imprisonment in another country without trial. You should be terrified.

I suspect there are at least a few conservative legal types out there thinking about whether all/most/some of it might worth it to overrule Humphrey’s Executor and I feel obliged to observe that no it is not, what is wrong with you

1/🧵 Judges across ideological lines are ruling against Trump at strikingly similar rates (84% liberal, 86% centrist, 82% conservative). This isn't partisan opposition to Trump—it's the judiciary functioning as intended by cutting across partisan lines to uphold the Constitution.

Jesus Christ. They tortured this guy. If you’re foreign, it is no longer safe to travel here I’m not joking.

They did it again www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Hey disability studies & critical race folks, I’m hiring a graduate student summer project assistant! Please share with students/peers and apply if you fit the description! docs.google.com/file/d/1VWnY...

I've been thinking about Ishmael Reed poem a lot in 2025

BREAKING: The US Justice Department is examining whether student protests at Columbia University over the genocide in Gaza violated federal terrorism laws, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said today.

One striking thing about the Columbia letter is the desire to impose unitary executive theory-type governance on a private university. I discuss the normative drive to institutional isomorphism in cases from the Freemasons to Presbyterianism in this book: academic.oup.com/book/2889

As far as I understand it, 10 Democrats voted for the Republican budget because, if they didn't vote for it, there might be a government shutdown which would give Trump the power to fire federal employees and shut down agencies -- TWO THINGS TRUMP AND MUSK ARE ALREADY DOING ON A DAILY BASIS

i beg your damn fucking pardon? you don't get to decide shit about fuck when it comes to the operations of a private university and I hope Columbia reminds them of that neat little fact

NEW letter to Columbia from Trump admin lists demands for “continued financial relationship” with the US government”: —Suspend or expel students for Hamilton Hall protest —“Time, place, and manner rules” —Mask ban —Address “anti-Zionist” discrimination —Reform admissions —MORE

Hey friends, I'm in need of help paying for moving costs due to a series of unfortunate events. If you can donate, I'd appreciate! If you can't, boosting by sharing everywhere is also a huge help. Thank you! gofund.me/686b663d

!! This seems to confirm that the Trump admin invoked an obscure Cold War-era law, INA 237(a)(4)(C), which authorizes the Secretary of State to *personally* order any noncitizen to be deported on the grounds that their presence "would have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences."

to be clear, only 20% of american jews identify as republican. fewer than a quarter of american jews voted for trump. this "schism" is between a fraction of our community and the vast majority of our community. but that republican fraction is empowered by wealthy donors to speak on all our behalf.

sick for Columbia to allow one of their own scholars to endure this

New — Rashida Tlaib, Mark Pocan, Nydia Velázquez, Delia Ramirez, Ilhan Omar, Jasmine Crockett, Summer Lee, Ayanna Pressley, Lateefah Simon, Al Green, Gwen Moore, André Carson, Nikema Williams, and James McGovern call on the Trump administration to release Mahmoud Khalil:

UPDATE—I asked Columbia specifically if they knew in advance of any DHS or ICE activity on or near campus, or whether they shared any info with authorities about the detained individual or any other Columbia affiliates. They *did not* answer those questions, instead just referred to this statement:

Oh fun. Someone who doesn't understand grammar has reported 60+ "errors" in one of my books. Including every case where a speaker continues in the next paragraph and therefore there isn't a closing quote on the first paragraph...

Please stop doing this. Please. Amazon giving the ability for people who have no concept of grammar and spelling to report typos and removing a book for sale is one of the dumbest moves, and they do a lot of dumb stuff.

this framing, my god

In case you missed it, the day before Mahmoud Khalil’s detention by Ice none other than Shai Davidai tweeted at Rubio demanding his deportation. And once he was apprehended, he felt these were legit “consequences” for him protesting. A faculty member @columbiauniversity.bsky.social the shameful.

every day Columbia University makes me more appalled and ashamed to be an alum

This development is a horrifying and further escalation of the very topic I wrote about yesterday evening: The Trump administration’s move from governmental changes to individual attacks focused on political opponents. www.lawdork.com/p/trump-test...

Columbia: it's not his fault, I just make him really angry sometimes, but he loves me

@apnews.com: "ICE arrests Palestinian activist who helped lead Columbia University protests, his lawyer says"

Baldoni + co's lawsuits confirm that Lively was showed a video of a naked woman without her consent, as well as Baldoni seemingly saying that him getting consent for Lively to come in while she was pumping while closed was permission in his eyes to enter her trailer whenever.

GIVE THAT HOUR BACK YOU BASTARDS

breaking via inbox: “On March 8, Department of Homeland Security agents arrested Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian activist and recent grad student at Columbia, at his place of residence, an apartment building owned by the university. The DHS agents said that the State Dept revoked Khalil’s green card.”

NEWS: Last night, the Department of Homeland Security detained a Palestinian who helped lead the Columbia encampment. Agents told him his visa was revoked. He said he had a green card. They were confused—then said that was revoked too. His attorney demanded a warrant. Agents hung up instead.

update: Student Workers of Columbia calling on the university to reinstate its sanctuary policy. statement alleges “multiple reports of ICE agents accessing or attempting to access Columbia campus buildings on Friday and Saturday” including undergrad dorms

I don’t mean to keep beating up on the @nytimes.com — they have a hard job. But it is crazy to me that this article doesn’t once observe that this funding withdrawal is (to put it mildly) legally questionable. The closest it gets is one quote wondering if it is pretextual. (1/2)

Back in the pages of everyone's favorite local mag! (@antigravitymag.bsky.social ) This story is about the potential overturning of gay marriage, & what queer couples can do to protect themselves. If you're worried about taking advice from a Straight don't be concerned. I consulted gay lawyers lol

Show us the way, teenage girl in New Jersey.

“By firing us, you’re going to cut down on how much revenue the country brings in,” said an axed IRS specialist who’d been brought in to audit complex tax returns filed by large corporations and wealthy individuals. “This was not about saving money.” By @andykroll.bsky.social
