as long as they conserve the Diego Rivera mural, I'll be ok

Criticize and mock Musk, please, but how about without the misogyny and homophobia? The master’s tools won’t dismantle the master’s house, right?

I guess the trick is avoiding the wrong person talking ;-)

I think it’s great there are multiple structures. Small seminar classes were far less productive for me. Too much time listening to the most arrogant male student drone.

They tend to be very white, yes. They also struggle to provide breadth of classes. More people = more stuff going on.

I keep hoping the recurring rolling funding disaster will prompt tenure committees to pursue reasonability. I hope, at least, yours does.

Same to you. I wish for an internet of respectful exchange and appreciate the conversation with you.

Not equivalent. I believe you understand that. The ChatGPT defense reminds me of the decade of opprobrium I got for eschewing Facebook. Somehow I still have friends and I feel really good about not having participated in their deterioration of democracy. I’ll bow out here because I’ve said my piece.

I disagree with the assertion that participation in an unethical activity is necessary to regulate it.

I have not yet been informed of a profit AI has generated beyond wishful stock market gains.

My answer above should indicate clearly I’m not pretending it doesn’t exist. I’m choosing not to use a tool that 1) doesn’t work 2) is destructive 3) is unethical.

I strongly disagree that chatGPT is merely a neutral communications tool that can be used positively or negatively. It is intrinsically harmful.

I’m an art historian, employed in a few different ventures. I don’t use it. I looked into it, realized it was a plagiarism blender machine, a party trick at best, climate and and intellectual destructor at worst, and never used it again. I find it far more practical to avoid it than use it.

A lot has been written by human authors on the environmental impact, the plagiarism and theft, and the intrinsic high failure rate of what is a statistics probability model, not an “intelligence” tool. You can read up.

If I understand your question correctly, my guess is there’s music and the two friends are marching joyfully with the beat. :)
