Cole Wehrle: Game Design as Process (2024 Zenobia Workshop) www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNdA...

Interview with Cole Wehrle on reading Thomas Pynchon, teaching a course on Gravity's Rainbow and Moby Dick, and running: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2qp...

Cole Wehrle on the relationship between play and material design, his approach to the physical elements of board games—cards, pieces, and the boards themselves—and how the materiality of each game invites a unique mode of play. (Audio improves at 10:25) www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0qH...

This is a very good piece—and reminds of a very inspiring bit in that Cole Wehrle Designer Notes interview, where he said Root’s surprise success let them focus on Oath being a game too ambitious for a company living game to gameto chance, but too weird for an actual AAA boardgame company to make.

Played Pax Pamir (15th play) and Arcs (4th play) by Cole Wehrle yesterday. I’m ever more impressed by their ability to create engaging emergent narratives. I find it hard to abstract myself from the implications of my decisions, which are often terrible for the inhabitants of the game. #boardgames

Great article on Cole Wehrle and the rise of gaming difficult topics

Siempre me topo con gente que odia #Root de Leder Games, pero los que lo aman lo ponen consistentemente en su top 5. Un juego que puede desatar emociones tan diametralmente opuestas no puede ser sino una obra de arte.

I have drawn characters as props for the board game Root. Based on the beautiful illustrations of Kyle Ferrin ♥️

We went to a sick board game cafe today called the Arcanist's Tavern for Mia's birthday :D we played this really fun game called Root which I may now have to buy lol, so much fun ❤️

One the one hand: cool we can have actors look like real life superheroes. On the other it feels like the endgame of what we started seeing in the 80s and no doubt leads to more toxic masculinity. Something I talk about in my upcoming graphic novel EXTRA LARGE! us.macmillan.com/books/978125...

YES. Love hearing this. It's really true, kids graphic novels are in unique position when it comes to literacy and kids with learning disabilities.

Made a little animated pencil test for fun starring Mira from my new graphic novel SPEECHLESS.

What a lovely graphic novel! Artwork and text combine beautifully to share biography and poetry of Emily Dickinson.

Best mail I’ve gotten in a while! I’m so excited to dig into this one @amabel.bsky.social

Starting the day with one of my daughter's favorite game, Scotland Yard. #boardgames

One of my favourite spaces I’ve come across in an old board game.

That time you killed me last night! I really love this game, easy to pick up but a ton of thinking once your focus starts changing eras. Worrying about your past present and future selves while shifting between past, present and future every turn is challenging and really fun! #boardgames

The new Magenta range of card games by @cmyk.games is very pretty. Learning Duos and Figment. #cardgames #coopboardgames #boardgames #tabletopgames

#BoardGames I got this game in the early 90s. Still holds up 30+ years later. Clue Museum Caper.

Today's game: La Fleur w/both expansions boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/40... #boardgames

Playing Kodama feels like it was made for me—growing a whimsical tree, nurturing tiny spirits, and making sure my branches flow just right? Perfection. If only real trees sprouted this fast… but I’ll settle for winning. Love these whimsical nature feel games. #TreeLover #BoardGames #Kodama

Played Trains. This new to me deck builder with a board was so much fun. Turns were so quick, players hadn’t even finished shuffling before it came to there turn again. I think I would absolutely try a very different strategy next time. #boardgames

Played Pixies. Rules explanation sounded really dull but I was pleasantly surprised and found the decisions were not always obvious. I really liked that I cared what other players were doing and it affected my choices. Would play again. #boardgames

Trump voters lack empathy. We knew that already. They didn't care about Trump’s violent coup attempt that led to several deaths, his hate speech, the sexual assaults, his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, decades of fraud and refusing to pay vendors. Empathy, it turns out, is an act of self-defense

On this week's @onthemedia.bsky.social... I speak with @willoremus.com about Musk's propaganda machine. @beccalew.bsky.social discusses the authoritarian roots of Silicon Valley Brooke interviews @elysegraham.bsky.social about how scholars and librarians helped win World War II.

Mya's incredible piece can be read here:

Everyone should read this to understand why people accused of nothing are sent to gitmo. www.theborderchronicle.com/p/the-mass-d...

Atlanta police have set up secret surveillance cameras outside of Stop Cop City activists' houses and gathering spots––and they refuse to answer any questions about the cameras www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

I’d legit love to see someone put public housing at the center of their political appeal.

@sarahjones.bsky.social's book is a gorgeous memorial to the working people eaten up in the past 5 years and a chilling prophecy for what's to come. America eats up and destroys its poor BY DESIGN. If this wasn't plainly obvious to you before now, it will be by the time you finish DISPOSABLE.

Disposable is out today! I owe everything to my sources and to my family, friends and colleagues, who have supported me and who believed in this project as much as I did. bookshop.org/p/books/disp...

Hey new folks! I'm a publisher / writer / designer who runs a publisher grounded in place and community (@hubcitypress.bsky.social) and advocates for small, local, diverse, and authentic in direct response to the consolidation and corporatization of nearly everything in the book industry.

Brian's book is one of the best, most necessary books of the spring that fundamentally changed how I see our current circumstances (and I read it before trump was in office). Preorder it and support his other events.

Hi Bluesky friends: I wanted to share that my book, THERE IS NO PLACE FOR US, is coming out in March. Based on a half-decade of reporting, it examines the rise of America's "working homeless," following five Atlanta families desperate to secure housing in a gentrifying, increasingly unequal city.

As HUD is being decimated, a critical, moving new book calls on us to reassess who we view as "homeless." It is a *much* larger problem than measured by our current measures. And it's not primarily a coastal one. A review by yours truly of "There is No Place for Us" by @brian-goldstone.bsky.social
