Yea, the judge dismissed the lawsuits since he felt there was not sufficient evidence the reporting was done with malice (a key part of a defamation suit). Doesn't mean it was good reporting.

Ah yes! Those messages were allegedly edited (ex removing a "🙃" emoji after a supposedly sarcastic message). The fact the NYT published those edited messages without telling the involved parties doesn't seem like amazing journalism, IMO 🤷‍♀️ variety.com/2024/film/ne...

Tbf the NYT has a history of biased reporting both ways. For example, they have stood by "Screams Without Words" despite immense backlash for fabricated evidence.

It makes me think of the trope of all bad things seem to originate with Reagan. Trump is our generations Reagan (deragatory)

Well, we are all going to be toast

And the opposite is true, too! "If you only like something when it applies to someone you DON'T like, then you don't actually believe in it".

Uh oh what was on TV last night

Fr. It makes me sick to think we are telling the world we are a safe place to be racist.

I always say the best way to save taxpayer dollars is to remove all books and all librarians from the library

Woa, that's a massive loss 😳

Grew up within an hour of Milwaukee, and it's always a shock to go back and hear how strong everyone's accent is!

Fair and true! Unfortunately, the ER isn't helpful if you're dealing with a chronic condition. I wouldn't go to the ER unless I was worried about life or limb, which is why I've never been to the ER. But honestly, even urgent care is hardly worth it, and I only get the help I need from my PCP.

I mean, it's making a comeback, so it feels like it never went away!

Agree. It's the same vibes as Barbie, and that did exceptionally well. Just remove the r-word and we're set!

Completely cutting STEM engagement is bleak, too. Why do any of this if we aren't going to reach out to the next generation? Open science is the future y'all

Oh, that's interesting! Does that have anything to do with what you can get otc? It's kinda crazy what you can get otc in other countries!

It's different in the US. Eu uses E numbers rather than common names. For example, Red Dye 40 in the US is E129. Great side note, the US ranked 3rd in quality & safety in the 2022 Global Food Security Index. Our food policy isn't perfect, but it also could be *way* worse.

Lol "Cooked"? You mean "pasteurized"? Not in RFKs America, baby! We are contaminated

So true! I feel like that's the US's problem to a T right now. When was "Great"?

Lol saying I trust nutritionists and food scientists over some random physician making bank off of health grifting is ignorance. Got it.

Chris Van Tuellken specialized in infectious diseases. How is that more qualified to speak on the subject 🤣 Anyways, yea, I'm going to trust food scientists and nutritionists on this one.
comment in response to post
I've lived in Germany, Canada, and the US. Like you said, as a consumer, there's not much of a difference. If you're fueling your body with the right nutrients, that's what matters. Being mindful of how you get those nutrients doesn't really change.
comment in response to post
Given there's not a consensus on UPFs among nutritionists, I feel like you're also proving my point. You can buy locally made loafs of bread at the grocery store, too, btw.

*is silly
comment in response to post
I'm not disagreeing, btw. There is absolutely too much financial influence on the policy side of things. But! On the science side of things, fear mongering over certain ingredients that are simply labeled differently (ex E129 vs Red Dye 40).
comment in response to post
The details differ, though. Each country has its own labeling standards. For example, Europe uses E-numbers, whereas the US uses common names.
comment in response to post
The comment section is a sober reminder of this, too. There is so much misinformation and fear around food.
comment in response to post
Labeling has different standards in other countries. The standards for what needs to be written on a label are higher in the US, so that's why we see ingredients broken down into so many components here.

I mean if I were to travel and only eat at the hotel restaurants and then say "all the food while I was traveling was bad", you could see how that might not be a good representation of the food, right?
comment in response to post
I'm legitimately curious as to where you're traveling and not finding good food. Are you just visiting chains or actually trying to find local spots? I feel like this is a skill issue 🤣
