The funny thing for me is that my mum was a scientist (chemistry researcher in the brewing industry) and was sad when I gave up my place at Imperial College to switch to philosophy and social science but her reading had been integral to that shift.

Not the same day relationship but I still have my mum's copies of Plato's The Republic and Rousseau's The Social Contract which she read for fun. (The latter is sadly falling apart now.)

But this excusing rule -"their action was for the purposes of carrying out a rescue of a person
from danger or serious harm" - could have very wide scope since border regimes create the risk of danger or serious harm.
