So excited to discuss our upcoming publication Do Less Harm @hopkinspress.bsky.social at this years virtual @aahmhistmed.bsky.social hosted by our wonderful chair @cethompson.bsky.social - see you there online!

Writing again for the first time in a while - nothing like workshops with pre-circulated papers to get things done! Looking forward to the @costprogramme.bsky.social Histories of Healthcare workshop, sorry I can’t be there in person to discuss first person accounts in the history of healthcare

A small village in Spain's sparsely populated northeast, is experiencing a revival after a refugee centre opened there.

This is a really amazing podcast episode from @academicaunties.com - with takeaways on how institutions and policy can have a profound impact on health

In "White Coats, White Hoods" Jacqueline Antonovich explores the medical politics of the Ku Klux Klan as eugenics gained a foothold in America at the turn of the 20th century Read free in Bulletin of the History of Medicine thru 28 February tinyurl.com/7myfbfx2

A brilliant project and post from my colleague and friend @jennyb6565.bsky.social - do get in touch with her if you have any information

Today is International Day of Women & Girls in Science. Marie Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. Her contributions have left an indelible mark on the world of science & health & continue to inspire generations of scientists & innovators. 🔬 #WomenInScience #WomenInSTEM

Im a historian of public health with a degree in public health. I also do know many many physicians who write "histories" of their fields/diseases without ever setting foot in an archive, or ever picking up a methods or historiography paper, and who "diagnose" historical figures with epilepsy, etc

So excited this is available for pre order 🎉 #AcademicSky

Now available for pre-order! Do Less Harm, coming Aug. 5. @drkyliesmith.bsky.social www.press.jhu.edu/books/title/...

Just posting this so I can pin it to my profile - my book Paediatrics in the Reichsuniversität Straßburg reflects on healthcare inequalities, ideology and health, occupation politics and identity, go check it out and order it for your library! www.exeterpress.co.uk/products/pae...

Red = lowest ecological integrity. Ireland has the great honour of being probably *the* most ecologically trashed nation in all Europe. 🏆 🏆 🏆

Winning an NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is a huge vote of confidence in the career of a freshly-minted researcher, and right now an entire cohort of people with distinction are apparently waiting to find out when they'll get their next paycheck as the month ends

Excited to meet the core group for our COST action @hiddencostaction.bsky.social @costprogramme.bsky.social - many thanks to Malta for hosting us!

Academic jobs are something else— “As leader of the Fellowship of the Ring, you will be responsible for the formation, outfitting, and guidance of a diverse team with the end goal of casting the one ring into the fires of Mount Doom. This is a part-time role paid at .06 FTE”

The narrowing of the post-doc/who counts as ECR window overlaps with the years our careers were derailed by COVID. How was I expected to come up with a postdoc idea while alone through lockdowns, redoing all work plans that were ruined by the pandemic, burned out, then sick?

Any idea when we would expect MSCA feedback for the 2025 postdoc round? The website is still pretty vague but I’m losing patience #AcademicSky

It's Holocaust Memorial Day. And I'm tired. The great scholar John K. Roth asked "How do we teach the Holocauast in THIS time?" And the answer is very much to put the present in the context of the past. The far-right is resurgent and trying to obscure that past. #HMD2025

I wonder how much of that 40% feel like they've failed, when they absolutely haven't because a vast majority of career advice is still coming from academics that "made it".

In my case it's: So, I have a new book out. It's on the Nazis. No, the historical ones.

Do academics have a section in their CV of chapters/articles that have just never been published for various reasons? Or does that look odd? #AcademicSky #IrishResearch #Historians

Headline German newspaper Die Zeit: « A Hitler Salute is a Hitler Salute is a Hitler Salute »

Ireland's incoming government has published/leaked their plan for the next five years. What's in it for #IrishResearch? 🧪 I had a look - there's few numbers, but a *lot* of fluff 🧵

New programme for government slogan agreed & no surprise they've gone for continuity Educate Evict Emigrate #DerelictIreland ffud.art #pfg

Contributing to this volume has been a true pleasure and I’m so excited to see it published soon. Till then, here’s a sneak peek of the cover! @hopkinspress.bsky.social @cethompson.bsky.social @drkyliesmith.bsky.social

@cethompson.bsky.social and I are so excited to share the cover for our book Do Less Harm out soon with @hopkinspress.bsky.social

I have taken the resources that were in the budget and which you were probably saving for higher education Forgive me they were needed to feed the AI bubble and to dismantle the humanities

So excited to launch the CFP for this upcoming conference for @hiddencostaction.bsky.social ! Submissions open until 24 January 🎉

Shall I apply for the job that has 500 candidates or the one with 700 candidates? Hmmmm. #flexibility

Art should be funded like science. To properly fund art, you fund failure. Funding failure will give you occasional excellence. Creating any art with the aim of it being popular enough to make money, will give you consistent mediocrity. Arists need funding to play and fail because that's the process

I wonder how long ECRs can be expected to contribute to collected volumes, workshops etc without institutional support before the whole system breaks? My January is all page proofs, research visits, papers, and applications, but I’m not paid for any of it.

Just finished the Indiana Jones game (loved it) but assume the DLC will now be Indiana Jones and the institutional review board? Indiana Jones and the big research grant? Love they mentioned grading mid terms though

Everyone likes to think eugenics ended with the defeat of the Nazis in the Second World War because its a comforting story, but really...

He’s making a list…

Oh mo dhiaaaaaaaa. Scéalaíocht ar #LateLateToyShow go hiontach ar fad!!

My first year in home in Ireland for the toy show in about 10 years, what a time #latelatetoyshow

#Humour (pardon à mes amis anglais, américains, néo-zélandais, australiens, sud-africains...)

Set up a writing group for an upcoming collected volume for this exact reason - shocked to find that setting up a writing group doesn’t mean words just magic themselves on to paper 😭

Last 2 weeks of the semester! Let's do this 😭 #AcademicSky

Delighted to have a blog post about our COST Action workshop collaboration with the Wiener Library made live today - here to read for those who are interested in the refugee map hidden-costaction.eu/workshop-wie...
