Talk of a "Feb 28 Economic Blackout" is spreading on social media.

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism. We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

I have a feeling against all odds Bing is going to outperform Google.

After 11 years, my time at HuffPost is coming to an end tomorrow. Last week, I learned HuffPost would be ending its dedicated coverage of energy and climate change. So, I took a buyout.

You can’t post your way out of fascism Authoritarians and tech CEOs now share the same goal: to keep us locked in an eternal doomscroll instead of organizing against them 🔗 www.404media.co/you-cant-pos...

“For most people, social media gives you this sense that unless you care about everything, you care about nothing. You must try to swallow the world while it’s on fire” This is a really compelling perspective - worthy of your attention if not your agreement www.404media.co/you-cant-pos...

Please share this. As a survivor, I can't articulate the years of shame, self doubt and suffering these practices cause. Conversion therapy is abuse, emotionally, physically, spiritually.

There's a petition to ban conversion practices (targeting LGBTQIA+ people) in the European Union. We need one million signatures, and we currently have 180,000+. If you live in Europe (even if you don't), spread the word ! 🌈🔥✊ eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#...

January has been a hell of a year

💥 Mind, the leading mental health charity, has quit X. It's here as @mindcharity.bsky.social. It had over 500,000 followers on the other place.

I once rang Hotel Doolin to ask them if I could use their loos for a group of just arrived Syrian families who were on a day trip across Clare and when we arrived they had muffins & hot chocolates ready for all the children and teas and coffees and scones for the adults ready in their barn.

An important thing we must all do now is actively set out to be what the world needs to see. Smile. Shop local, use public transport, support libraries, volunteer in the community. Travel outside our comfort zones. Make/enjoy art. Sing. Laugh. Chat to strangers and neighbours. Read. Walk. Be kind.

Christmas Data Strike: December 24 & 25. The idea is to stay off social media (most importantly Meta & X), streaming services & Google, (basically any and all online platforms that collect & sell your data for those two days).

It feels wonderful to have been welcomed by so many of you here on BlueSky... especially the sticking it to Leon part. 😛

Twitter continues to lose millions of users each month. At the same time, Bluesky is growing so fast — currently over 21 million users — that it's racing to get more servers. 🦋

If you are looking for a doomscrolling pal I’m not your gal. I refuse to lose one more day of my life to that Orange bastard. Am I giving up? Nope. But I’m going to spend my time on self care, lifting others and being informative w out fear.

Not sure people realise how hard it's been recently for artists to survive, or how deeply appreciated every single order is. If you can't buy something, it makes a huge difference just to share our work. If you can't share our work, a little sacrifice to the Old Gods on our behalf means a lot, too 💜

That news was as good as it Gaetz.

We left X and joined Bluesky because those against our parks said, “If you don’t like it, leave.” So we did. And now they’re saying, “No, come back so we can say mean things to you—it makes us feel important.”

I have never been so relieved to see guitars in my life!!

despite the world becoming scary i still have a perhaps niave but unwaivering belief that a better world is possible

Bluesky now has over 20M people!! 🎉 We've been adding over a million users per day for the last few days. To celebrate, here are 20 fun facts about Bluesky:

We love links because we love the open web

When you see your Tw*tter buds arriving on Bluesky

Hello!!!

I just want to live longer than twitter.

Very sad to hear of the death of Jon Kenny today. One half of D’Unbelievables, who were a comedy phenomena in Ireland in the 1990s, Jon (along with Pat Shortt) created brilliant, mad worlds, dragging the audience, roaring with laughter, with them. An inspiration. RIP.

Woke up in the middle of the night and scrolled aimlessly on Bluesky instead of the other place. We are so back.

If anyone’s looking for alternatives to GoodReads, I highly recommend StoryGraph. It’s owned by a black woman, and the platform is so much more accessible and easy to use.

Good morning from the Kingdom ☀️

So. We've had a massive explosion of followers over the last day. We were added to an Irish and Ireland-related starter pack. BlueSky's great, isn't it!? Anyway, *some* of you may not know what this account is about, so here's a quick overview. At sunset every day, we post the time of ... 1/7

Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #181,561! Surprised and thrilled with that stat!!

I checked last week to see if they'd make it to Bluesky yet, and was disappointed. But now The Stretch is back, baby!

Palestinians I follow say they can't contact family in gaza anymore. This is devastating beyond words. Israel wants to have free reign to genocide Palestinians without us bearing witness. But Allah bears witness over everything and he will make sure justice prevails.

$3.75 in coins flew out of my pocket in an e scooter crash and now the bus stop teens are calling me sonic the hedgehog

Being on here kinda feels like being at the adult table at long last after being at the kids table for years… like the peace and quiet here is just so jarring and lovely compared to the insanity of the other place that is now formally known as twitter!

Our time...has come. 🍁

Update from #SAGAFTRA: AMPTP refuses to counter and walks away from the table again. The strike continues.

There is no power on earth for authors like word of mouth. Especially with the death of Twitter, so many of us have lost huge chunks of our reach. So please, if you love a book, tell your friends and talk it up on your social media. No voice is too small, every single word counts. And thank you!

People following you here who followed you on twitter feels very “in every timeline, in every universe, I will find you and love you.”

guess where we’re complaining about it now bitch
