I really like this video showing some of the 2104 asteroids found in 10 hours of data - really gives a sense of how Rubin's view of the changing sky will be different. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrmI...

In addition to these never-before-seen cosmic neighbors, Rubin detected another ~1800 previously-known asteroids, bringing the total detections to just under 4000 in just 10.5 hours!🔭🧪 In other words, over half of Rubin's first detections are new discoveries☄️

I’m reminded of a history of the Spanish-American War I read, it detailed how the Spanish fleet sat at anchor in Cuba, and how as long as it did that the US Navy was stymied. Eventually the King of Spain ordered them to sortie at which point the US Navy wrecked them and the war quickly ended.

It looks like it's still sitting there, unused. There was apparently supposed to be some development there but it never happened. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooper_...

I mean, I agree with your overall premise, but this guy has been threatening to nuke the West weekly since they invaded Ukraine.

<deep breath> The park went through various changes in its 75-year history, I'm shooting for its ~mid-50's appearance. So I replaced the Sanborn map with an aerial photo from 1953 to trace out the bleachers correctly. I also luckily found a scoreboard photo so colorized it and put that in, too.

No, he needs to be impeached, and whether or not the votes are there the Democrats need to introduce articles of impeachment.

Yes, we ran into a lot of things that may or may not be US-specific. Politicians lie and the media does not hold them accountable, in part because the most popular media has been bought up by right-wing moguls. People invent reasons not to vote for women or minorities. Ignorance is running amok.

It's going to take a generation to recover from this. It's going to take massive changes for the government to regain the trust of not just the international community but significant fractions of the US population. We can't just elect someone new in 2028 and pretend this all didn't happen.

Yes, well. This really isn't "just like that", it's been between a 25 and 50-year project that the right wing has undertaken, steadily undermining democracy--the USSR's demise looked sudden, too, but had been building for a while. But while it's absolutely dire here, it ain't over yet.

#FergieFirstDraftLyrics is my knee-jerk response, but it may need workshopping.

You can ask @papersquared.bsky.social to confirm, but I believe it is near Podunk.

They haven't completed the celebratory ziggurat at Fred Ciesla Boyhood Home National Historic Site yet? It's been in the works for quite some time.

I'm only seeing one song that makes both lists, and it's not a bad choice at all IMO.

I'm not her, and I'm not at Goddard, but my understanding is that GSFC had a town hall earlier this week and it's certainly possible the number was floated at that meeting.

Now do Extra Texture (Read All About It), I dare you. (I suspect Lennon is going to have the best chance of going the furthest among The Boys with something from Rock and Roll, but I suspect it still won't be very far)

Oh! Not mine, I was just putting in the right emoji to get it on the Science and Astronomy feeds!

This month we highlight a score of Black astronomers trying to pursue their ambitions without fear, and Black In Astro, an organization supporting predominantly early-career Black people working in the space sciences. Editorial: www.nature.com/articles/s41... #BlackSpaceWeek #EquityInSTEM 🔭
