I started today’s “Putinization of America” article for the Atlantic before the Trump-Zelensky meeting was announced, but I have a bad track record when it comes to hoping I’m wrong. It could’ve been scripted by Putin, especially Vance’s attacks. Maybe it was. www.theatlantic.com/internationa...

Forgot this one. Trump released water from two reservoirs in Central Valley, allegedly to help LA fires (even though the water doesn’t flow to LA). This nearly flooded local farms and wasted billions of gallons of water that farmers expected to use this spring and summer www.npr.org/2025/02/07/n...

A little late for him to grow a spine. He and Kevin McCarthy have a lot of the blame for the disaster in the USA.

I am at the point where I feel that the worse things are for the next 4 years the better.

Why would a soldier want to be in a vehicle that they don't have full control of? Auto-locking doors seem a bad idea in a war zone.

Especially with a warming arctic, we don't have enough ships to exert control of our own laws. I think there needs to be a baseline of capacity, and competency, maintained in peacetime and we aren't near that in Canada. In my opinion.

As a Canadian, I agree with this. Probably the first time I have agreed with a Trump statement on anything. We have Canadian values we like to hold up as a beacon, but we outsource protection of our sovereignty to America. Our military is criminally underfunded.

Careful Dimko, this sort of admission will be used as more evidence of the wasteful USAID spending.

Paper agreements have been shown to be worthless. Ukraine should: Sign the agreement. Get the weapons. Evict Russia. Wait 10 years. Renegotiate/nationalize the mines.

I think every province probably has its sacred cows. There must be a report on this from the Canada West Foundation or some other institute.

Provincial protectionism is an issue. For alcohol & meat sales, Alberta isn't the problem. The ALCB was privatized in 1993 but I don't think BC or ON have given equal market access. Provincial meat inspection standards are highest in Alberta, but other provinces prefer to protect their markets.

Canadian politics usually dumps the incumbent after 8+ years as people sour of the party. PP was heading for an easy victory, despite many people disliking him and his populist rhetoric-they just disliked Trudeau more. But Trudeau's resignation & Trump's tariffs are causing people to reconsider.

What pisses me off is all the resistance to new national infrastructure projects by provinces, specifically BC and Quebec, over the past 15 years.
