The power fantasy discourse with video games is fascinating to me if just because of how it communicates how disconnected these kind of theoreticians are from the very mediums they're trying to dissect. Literally all the things described as negatives are basic constructs of making a game.

Still talking about Power Fantasies in games? I have two inassailable points: games are bad at disempowerment (even soulslikes) and Power Fantasies are seeing moral pushback just like Dark Fantasy Romance is. Neither are maladaptive til a human decides to rejects reality. Stories inform, not decide.

Suikoden, perhaps best summed up as “Pokémon meets Game of Thrones,” is one of my favorite video game series. So it’s been a pleasure to play through the new remaster of Suikoden 1+2, which comes out tomorrow. The bugs are fixed, the entire script is reworked, and it looks gorgeous. Highly recommend

Split Fiction is the only game me and my husband have finished together in 6 years of being together. The only other modern game that comes close: It Takes Two (which sold 20 million copies!!!) Put down the goddamn live service/casual party games and pick up the couch coop AAA studios

For the record, do I think a one-day boycott is going to make much of an economic impact? No. Do I think that a sort of "Baby's First Boycott," performative though it is, might be useful to make some folks aware of the impact of their economic power, and how it might be wielded politically? Maybe.
