If that doesn't work, please run wget in verbose mode (wget -v '<URL>'), copy and paste the output to a pastebin and send me the link:

Many CDNs now block command line user agents, try changing it to a browser UA:
wget -U 'Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/17.6 Safari/605.1.1' '<URL>'

If you're an acid head then I recommend checking out Jim Thompson's "Lost Acid" series, he's released 5 volumes this year!

De:tuned have put out some great stuff this year. These two Nuron releases are fantastic:

Indeed. Not sure how you can "push the envelope" much further than Trump already did during his last presidency.

My condolences about your sister. I might be able to generate something for you as I have a private alternative interface to Twitter. Feel free to PM me with her username and I'll see what I can do.

Sorry Brooke, Blue sky doesn't let me untag you. Just wanted to say thanks to Joe for putting me on to "In Our Time", it's helped massively with my insomnia over the last few months.

This pithy cynicism masquerading as intelligence is extremely tiresome.

Apologies for the random reply, but for me this guy (who was legitimately a WW2 hero) was the epitome of our tradition of ridiculous double barrelled names.

Thanks. Yes it looks like I blocked them in March, can't remember why. There are some posts that are litmus tests for stupid opinions, so for my own sanity I tend to go through the replies and preemptively block.

I see your reply thread but the post you're replying to is blocked. Perhaps I have blocked the person you were replying to? Not sure how to tell to be honest!

What was the context of this conversation Steven? Did the person you were replying to block you?

“You believe in political action? That pales in effectiveness compared to my strategy, giving myself PTSD, adding 5 flags to my display name and calling everyone I disagree with a genocide apologist” etc.

Once you realise this you can see it absolutely everywhere. COVID-19 created so many conspiracy theorists because it was such a visceral demonstration that the world is totally chaotic and nobody is in control.

It always strikes me as a marginally more sophisticated version of the YouTube conspiracy theorist catchphrase "do your own research".

The logic used to deny the Britishness of dishes that were created by British Indians for fellow Brits, is the same as that used by racists to assert that non-white people can never be British.

Believing this behaviour is an "op" is akin to thinking that Trump is playing 4D chess. It's a psychological defence mechanism to avoid accepting the depressing truth that people this stupid walk amongst us.

I think it's very hard to make a reasonably accurate show about the Pacific theater without it seeming nihilistic! I recently read E. B. Sledge's book (1 of the 3 that the series was based on), and was surprised by how well both the events and the tone of the book is portrayed in the series.

It's a wedge issue but not a significant one. Israel/Palestine ranks near the bottom when people /under 30/ are asked about "major issues facing the US today".

Yes I don't agree with that part, but I think it's a fairly natural reflexive rationalization.
I don't know if the explanation given for the account being labelled is accurate, but it's not exactly far-fetched given the vitriolic nature of the discourse on the topic.
comment in response to

It appears that your account can be labelled, resulting in every post (regardless of content) being flagged and hidden. I only realised this because I kept seeing posts from this person, often followed by confused replies asking why it was labelled as "intolerant":

If you like ATCQ and horns then you should enjoy anything produced by Pete Rock. Some recs:
> Pete Rock & CL Smooth - Mecca & the Soul Brother
> Pete Rock / InI - Center of Attention
> Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
> Beastie Boys - The In Sound from Way Out
The last one is basically a funk record!

I think it's a post hoc rationalization that stems from the general demonization of smokers.
What frustrates me about this debate more generally is that nobody seems to consider that some smokers actually like smoking! I smoked for over a decade and quit when I no longer enjoyed it.
comment in response to
post
Extremely. I know that smoking is quite prevalent in China but my assumption was that sales taxes are not particularly high, so to reach 7.4% of collected revenue seems incredible!
comment in response to
post
Something of an aside, but this statistic in the abstract really jumped out at me:
"Income from the tobacco industry accounts for up to 7.4% of centrally collected government revenue in China."

I believe Ukraine has some Patriot PAC-3 systems which were designed to intercept ballistic missiles? Israel's Arrow 3 is much more advanced though.
comment in response to
post
Only tangentially related to your original post but I'm always amazed at how big these missiles are. It takes a lot of fuel to send a 750kg payload 1700km.

It felt to me that once it became clear the attack had failed, people began jumping through hoops to give Iran the benefit of the doubt.
Even if they knew that 50% of the missiles would fail to launch or crash en route, and so launched twice as many, 60 is still a significant number.

The Washington Post article about the Truth Social investors removed any last vestiges of doubt I had as to whether Trumpism is a cult of personality. These people are not capable of independent thought.

This is why I've believed fully autonomous driving will never happen. In the real world, trolley problem type situations occur where there are limited choices and all lead to some level of harm. People cannot accept autonomous systems making decisions under these conditions!
comment in response to
post
I don't dispute that Iran assumed significant losses, but I'm sure they expected many more of the 120+ ballistic missiles to reach their targets.
I'm also not convinced that Iran foresaw the level of assistance provided by the UK and Jordan (in addition to the US).
comment in response to
post
This post was a response to people absolving Iran of responsibility for launching the attack and/or claiming it wasn't an escalation because they "knew" Israel would shoot down all the drones and missiles.
