It seems likely that another factor in low ridership is MARTA's struggle to provide reliable weekend rail. Read about that issue here:

I don’t prioritize marta anymore, because it’s already a 20-60 minute wait for the train, AND the machines are often out of order and it’s too much stress to hear a train coming when you’re trying to add money and figure out how to fly to the platform to catch the train. Won’t get started on buses.
