First case of a Skyrim copy getting haunted by the same ghosts that haunt the dungeons, oh my god.
I don't wanna laugh at this because I know how frustrating it is but at the same time I can't help but laugh at the sheer insanity of this situation.

The haunted copy theory might just be true after all!!!!
Yeah, I'd say try reinstalling and hope it works as it should.
Skyrim's such a weird game to the point that I'm not sure if that's a game bug or a console bug and it kinda makes me laugh a bit.

THIS JUST GETS MORE INSANE EVERY TIME WHAT
At this point I'd just consider your Skyrim copy haunted (I'm joking, obviously), I'd try reinstalling it just to make sure, because damn, this is genuinely mind-boggling

I don't know how Skyrim really works so this could very well be wrong, but the only way I can think of this happening is that your copy is somehow bugged in a way that either completely forgets you had a companion or they bug out mid-way through fast travelling and...idk, die or get deleted.

That really is legitimately insane, what the hell.
I'm assuming that the way this is happening is that you have your companion, and then after a loading screen, they just disappear, right?
And quicksaving doesn't bring them back?

It's been a while since I've last played and I also play on PC, but I do recall that the times that I've lost my followers were due to them being stuck inside a location and since they were still alive, the game would not let me switch followers or mark them on the map, maybe that could be it?
