Two headlines in the New York Times today.

A weird fad that the Atlantic (natch) promoted enthusiastically in 2016. Reactionary centrists make arguments that are no more nuanced than the brayings of a bar-drunk, but spread across six magazine pages with a transparent gloss of pseudo-intellectualism. www.theatlantic.com/video/index/...

Makes sense.

"Investors here in the U.S. have been programmed to believe that recoveries are V-shaped. And I think the reason they've been programmed to believe that is because you've always had monetary and fiscal stimulus simultaneously in most of their investment lifetimes." - Adam Parker, Trivariate Research

Correct from the president of Harvard www.nytimes.com/2025/04/21/u...

Live your life so that when you visit the Pope and he dies the next day everyone’s first thought isn’t “bet he killed him”

How'd that work out?

This is deranged. Jan. 6 defendants were repped by one of the best public defender offices in the U.S. They were more likely to be released pretrial & got comparatively light sentences. SCOTUS threw out a bunch of convictions, which almost never happens. They got gold-plated due process!

They had lawyers, trials, most were given pretrial release, allowed to testify in their own defense, got discovery, could call witnesses, could cross-examine witnesses, could present mitigation at sentencing, and had a right to appeal.

The Emergency Housing Voucher program has been vital for those escaping homelessness and domestic violence, but its funding expires next year, threatening eviction for thousands, especially in marginalized communities. This could worsen housing instability for Black and Brown communities.

Breast cancer diagnoses rose by over 300% between 1973 and 1992. Was there a breast cancer epidemic?! NO. Mammograms were implemented for screening in 1976. PREVALENCE is a function of being able to correctly diagnose something. This is also about autism.

THE HAUNTED HOTEL (1907) was a playful special effects fest using every form of animation available to filmmakers at the time. Stop-motion, miniatures, puppetry, wires, magnets and more, it showcased every trick in Vitagraph's arsenal.

@scarycutedinos.bsky.social Thanks!

Imagine logging into the internet in the year 2025 to deny what is happening in Sudan is a genocide. My G-d.

Yeah, but a depression is worth it to think about saying the n-word in the breakroom while not quite working up the courage to actually do it

i think people are missing the forest for the trees with this one. RFK Jr wants complete centralized knowledge of every American's health in order to exact control on what medications are allowed and in order to fabricate "evidence" for each and all of his nonsense theories.

Passport, blank checks, $3K in cash, driver’s license, makeup, and meds? Sound like a flight risk

"We cannot give everyone a trial," says the president of these United States.

My reaction when people act surprised that a weekend Fox News host isn’t qualified to run the Pentagon.

The Supreme Court says we can and MUST

Why has the deep state done this

I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.

Remember those piece of shit private security guards who violently dragged a woman out of a GOP town hall in Idaho back in February? They’ve finally been charged.

What Pete Hegseth is talking about in the group chat:

NEW: Mahmoud Khalil's wife gave birth to their child without him after ICE denied their request to let him be present. “This was a purposeful decision by ICE to make me, Mahmoud, and our son suffer,” Dr. Abdalla said. “My son and I should not be navigating his first days on earth without Mahmoud."

I’m old enough to remember when conservatives got mad because they thought women were having babies to get cash

This is one of the dumbest things I’ve read since Jan. 20. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/21/u...

As a person who has studied history, an autism registry is a five alarm fire.

quick question: why was noem carrying $3,000 in cash? was she just out selling drugs or something?

Almost every line of this story would have been simply unbelievable a few months ago: —Pioneering cancer researcher; —*Arrested* at airport in Boston; —Now indefinite ICE detention in Louisiana; —"Crime": not declaring some frog-embryo samples for research. Read it. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

Chair Comer denied our request for an official trip to El Salvador to advocate for due process and the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Pretty shameful. Good thing I don’t need Comer’s permission to get on a plane.

This isn’t a plan to raise birthrates, it’s a plan to give money to people already having lots of kids, primarily religious families. A singles and small families to big families transfer. A plan to help people who want kids have them would address healthcare, not give a one-time $5k check per baby.

Always reblog. Happy Easter!

Everyone reach in and draw a pickled egg. Whoever gets the black egg gets conclaved tonight.
