When Stephen Miller gave the orders to ICE to conceal identity, Miller helped get these elected officials shot. He’s complicit in these attacks. Impeach, remove, prosecute, imprison.

Head-smacking stat of the day, via Bloomberg Econ: By 2030, Trump's tariff regime will make the global economy $1T smaller - with 1/3 of the losses in the US (690k jobs lost) - than if the US had just stayed in the TPP. www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...

Incredibly irresponsible for about a hundred different reasons

The sole criteria I will be voting on in the 2028 primary is which candidate credibly promises to put the largest number of Trump officials in prison. I do not care about any of their other policies.

i feel like the present moment was most predicted by William Gibson's The Peripheral, sci-fi-wise

yeah that point is called "the practice of poetry" and its been with us the whole time we been human

if only we hadnt made fun of them in the signal chats, then The Atlantic could be live-broadcasting the private debate between the principals on this right now

Trump and his admin are not acting in any semblance of good faith, but the courts are accustomed to giving the executive branch a presumption of regularity and good faith. The result is a giant loophole that lets Trump flagrantly outside the law while the courts chase down every bad-faith appeal.

If you're following the GOP tax bill disaster, my latest in @crisesnotes.bsky.social traces how this effort builds on a longstanding campaign to weaken the IRS and consolidate fiscal power in the hands of the wealthy. This is the first in a series on DOGE, taxes, and the future of public governance.

Chat, is it good when your military in a liberal democracy is talking about Tiananmen Square

Interesting detail in the UMich data this month. All political groups reported higher *average* inflation expectations, but overall *median* inflation expectations fell. Two possibilities (not mutually exclusive): a more Republican sample, or inflation expectations skew is getting more dramatic.

its wrong to call GOP economic policy or its worldview "zero-sum"; the policy and worldview is explicitly negative-sum. another way to say this is that they need their pleasure to come from others' pain

whats even crazier about this is that the redistribution is negative sum! if you passed a law saying "everything stays the same, but the bottom 9 deciles have to give the modeled amount of money to the top decile", then the top decile would get more money! this is a way to explain Kalecki, imo

👀 Remember these ~distributions~ on Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill”? Then, boy, do I have news for you. Taking the bill and tariffs together, the bottom **80%** of households are worse off, @budgetlab.bsky.social found.

has anything good ever been done in the medium of live streamed video? it seems like a medium that's organized around heckling, which is always particular and never universal

I’ve said this before I think. I think of money and credit in terms of the interplay between elasticity and discipline. Crypto is the interplay of inelasticity at the intensive margin and indiscipline at the extensive margin.

"The point is that he and his staff are operating on a different level of politics than basically everyone else right now, and the rest of society desperately needs to catch up. That level of politics, to reiterate, is one that is decided with guns." www.discourseblog.com/p/the-only-r...

i think the thing people don't really understand is that it's not search which has gone to shit, not entirely. it's the internet.

It has happened here before, and this looks like that. I am literally about to give a talk about the violent takeover of democratic governance in the Reconstructed South, and this looks like that. It is not the same, but if you do not see it at all, you are not looking.

It’s the biggest story in the country that the media is ignoring - how this explicitly white supremacist and antisemitic ideology has consumed the minds of virtually the entire organized right, from Elon Musk on down

Even worse, you must give money to Elon Musk as a condition of any corporate merger. This shit is terrifying. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/12/b...

A lot of American journalists who have built up their careers and lives in a culture of free discussion and inquiry seem very blithe about the fact it could all just go away.

What to do? End unanimous consent, call for leadership resignations by tomorrow, and if not, impeachments.

Seriously, we’re going to get agencies/law enforcement squaring off against each other before this is all over and it will be very deeply ungood. This is what happens when coordination breaks down. Smart move would be for politicians on both sides to use this as line in the sand before we get there.

They are extremely clear about the fact that they consider themselves to be at war with you. They do not equivocate about it. It's their stated policy.

They're not going to even appear to slow down until some people in the agency start fearing for their post-service freedoms. Why should they? Why would any of them believe in consequences?

"We are here to liberate this city from [democratically elected leaders]" You may not think you're at war with them, but they're at war with you.

Pathetic: ABC’s GMA, World News Tonight, This Week, CBS’ Mornings, Evening News, Face the Nation, NBC’s Today, Nightly News, Meet the Press, MSNBC, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, and The Wall Street Journal all failed to cover Trump's new office for ethnic cleansing.

this is NUTS. Trump's pet dictator seems to have collaborated directly with MS-13, including persecuting his own law enforcement officials who were working with a US task force www.propublica.org/article/buke...

dude this show is such an echo chamber. you can only hear the one band and everyone's enjoying it. you need to invite some hecklers with megaphones so that everyone can hear what they have to say

"Orange Man Bad" is not about any single particular orange man

Yesterday's Quinnipiac poll reports that Democrats now disapprove of congressional Democrats by 12 points, a 3 point dip since February. After aggregating the data, this appears to be the lowest approval from Dems of their own party's leaders ever recorded by Quinnipiac.

you guys ever think about how silicon valley never cared about the climate and the point of "Going Paperless" was only to make all other organizations more dependent on the tech industry
