CTA — Call Your Congressperson and Urge Them To Vote Against the House Budget Resolution Being Voted on Next Week It is 11PM on Thursday night and an email from a high ranking Hill healthcare staffer has just hit my inbox: Medicaid faces an "existential" vote in the House, probably Tuesday...

I've been asked if SSI/SSDI payments are in jeopardy now that DOGE demanded access to "sensitive information" forcing the resignation of the career civil servant who was acting administrator We've seen how they've smashed their way through other agencies; DOGE is a threat to SSI/DI payments 🧵

This news is both sad and worrisome. Please do not let this be a precursor to attempts to “privatize” national park land (and then irreparably ruin it).

Objectively wrong. If LLM built on a hot pile of garbage or uses a biased algorithm, you don’t know how to test the validity of the results you get. AI is not a substitute for critical thinking or basic responsibility. Just ask all the parents of disabled children “transitioning” to *adulthood*.

*blinks in parent of P&T disabled child about to turn 18* I don’t want to hear one more fucking word about eggs.

This is the energy. I want a ticker on billboards everywhere that compares these numbers with the tag line: “This is why we can’t have nice things. Like life. Or health care. Or education.”

Costco, which has come out saying it supports DEI, will make no changes to its existing programs, AND pays workers a minimum of $30/hour, is up 15% YTD. Target, which announced it is ending all DEI programs and has a minimum wage of $15-$24/hour, is down over 4%. Keep voting with your wallet.

The most palate cleansing 🧵 ♥️

All. Of. This.

For a photo op & a bragging media post, Trump minions at the USACoE have thrown away millions of gals of #water farmers were relying on for later this year. This water will not be captured, will not be useful for cities or farms or firefighting. It is now lost. www.latimes.com/environment/...

Some of what Trump is attempting to do is unlawful, but some of his shadier maneuvers will likely be supported by the courts. SCOTUS is on his side. I don't say this to discourage people, but as a reminder that the law cannot be our bottom line. Our obligation is to each other, not the law.

As caregiver-parent for a perm & totally disabled adult child, I grateful to find Matthew’s calm confidence. The dumpster is still on fire, but at least I’m not fueling it with more of my panic. Any other good follows in the disability / benefits arena? Obv “traditional” media is out.

This 🧵. We already do not think enough for ourselves thanks to every aspect of our lives being reduced to capitalistic algorithms and incessant demands for our limited attention. AI risks further dehydrating our minds as well as our planet. This isn’t really abt US v China. This is humans v nature.

As we see the first signs of Trump's DOJ changing the federal government's positions, an interesting #SCOTUS data point: Of the 60 cases (counting consolidated pairs as one) on the OT2024 merits docket, the federal government is a party in 31 (51.7%) of them. Only one other term had > 50%: OT2023.

If running shoes were a mullet … www.hoka.com/en/us/coming...

This. The checks and balances that allowed anyone to believe that laws or “norms” would carry the day are gone. If SCOTUS, which was the only real check left on the exec branch, breaks with the WH, it will be b/c of ideological differences among thieves, not b/c stealing is illegal.

I don’t really miss IG, and I’ve been happy to find many of my favorite follows here. But, I really miss David M. Bird’s “Becorns,” and I don’t think he’s here. If you’ve never heard of / seen his work, it’s truly wonderful and uplifting. www.davidmbird.com

Guinness speaks for us all: too tired to even lay down; just crash-landed on the arm of the sofa.

Ah, yes. While planet is on fire, we think it’s ✨innovative✨ to use up millions of gallons of water and untold kilowatts of electricity to prove that computers are just as “intelligent” as the rest of us. 🙄

This is a long, thoughtful, informative, zero-clickbait-outrage description of incarcerated firefighting from someone with first-hand experience (and a wicked interesting backstory).

If we’ve learned anything in the past 2 weeks, it ought to be that we should worry *a lot* more about what all the social platforms *not* called TikTok are doing with our data. 🫣

#PopularInformation is worth your investment if you have the means. Been a subscriber for years and appreciate the quality of the reporting as well as the readership community that’s developed around Judd and team’s work.

app.thestorygraph.com/profile/dani... This is the year I finally buy a dent in the growing pile of books on my nightstand. Moved over to @thestorygraph.com 📖

Oh, @merriam-webster.com … *yawn* Because 2025 is relentless

You can’t get a home loan w/o homeowners’ insurance. So, if you can’t get insurance, and you can’t pay cash for a house … I know 2008 was a minute ago, but have we really memory-holed AIG, TARP, and the credit-default swap BS so deep in our collective PTSD that we can’t see where this is going?

First, Celeste is a great follow (and so glad I found her here) Second, tremendous list of reputable places to donate / volunteer to help life impacted by the California fires.

Rich, cishet, white man decides leaving Meta to protect our data, autonomy, mental health, & privacy is “virtue signaling,” b/c HOW DARE WE THINK FOR OURSELVES. I mean, these platforms are so great, why else would we go? Couldn’t be b/c we got burned already once *Cough* Cambridge Analytica *cough*

This is my third attempt at this pattern, and I think I’ve finally figured it out. Called Montana2 stitch by Adriana Mihalca. (Not sure she’s here to tag but pattern on Etsy.) Will be a blanket when it grows up. #crochet

Well … gonna give this a go in earnest after Meta’s announcement today that it is now state-run media in all but name. Hoping to find my #tolkien #crochet #running #cooking #baking and #running people again.
