Rather then a burger, I would say it feels more like trying to interpret a contract written in full legal jargon when you're still a freshmen.

I apologize that I misunderstood why you were able to work, however the reason I thought you were still full SAG is because that's what's listed on your resume. When someone tries to research anything regarding you or SAG at the moment it's either old info or buried under negative videos/ commenter

Thats fair. The situation is just coming across extremely confusing. I am not union either & I support SAG as well - however it is starting to feel like the public is constantly being given conflicting information.

If the studio doesnt matter then why are the studios the one negotiating? It seems bizarre to have a studio negotiate with SAG if it has nothing to do with them. Also I tried to use the checker and IDK if it’s picky or broken but I cant get it to pull anything up. All I get is ‘no results’.

My understanding was fi-core was for non-union members who could work union projects without joining SAG? And that they were able to work genshin because while Formosa is named in the strike, they were moved to another studio prior to the strike that was not included is the SAG strike.
comment in response to

Did they leave SAG? They still advertise themselves as being in SAG on their linked in.

But Corina & other vas continued to work on genshin through a different studio? Corina only just announced their departure. Also SAG only names the studios & not projects. If the projects themselves were struck, wouldnt they name the project & ban members from working those projects entirely?
comment in response to

Well not quite. They are separate but connected. People are upset with Hoyo because Hoyo is starting to replace vas who are striking against Formosa. Formosa contracts some of Hoyo’s EN voice overs and refuses to put ai protections in their contracts, meaning actors cant work.

I mean for example Corina (who is SAG) kept performing as paimon but wasn’t in violation. During the strike, while formosa was struck, Hoyo’s other contract companies were not stuck & complied with SAG so actors at that company were able to keep working on Genshin.

Even if you’re not SAG or a VA, replacing striking worker can enable companies to abuse their workers without consequences - ultimately leading to a toxic & often abusive work environment. He may have gotten the job, but he may have less negotiating power in the future as a result.
comment in response to
post
Well, as you pointed out, he apparently supported the strike until he got offered their job. Thats where the problem lies. Both parties are in the wrong - the response was wrong, but also he should have never taken that job either as it hurts the ability to bargain for the actors (him included).
comment in response to
post
Well no, my understanding is the other actors who were contracted though other companies are union as well? Just their companies were not being struck, cause Formosa was the struck company- not hoyo

Um, if you mean jacob - I agree it was handled poorly but it is important to know Jacob is an American actor & only moved to JP 3 years ago. He was also well aware of the strike as he liked & retweeted other va’s posts about the VA strike. Thats why SAG members were upset with him.

Right its not unique, but Formosa is the one who the SAG contract is with right? My understanding is other actors who are SAG but who were not contracted through Formosa could continue to work because they were through other companies.
comment in response to

Also it’s improving to note Formosa Ocean is just a subsidiary. Formosa interactive is the parent company so ocean post falls under them.

Formosa is apart of the SAG-Aftra bargain group for video games. That means they have a contract with SAG, Genshin isnt a union project but Formosa is a Union production. They have to have contracts with SAG or else they cant hire SAG actors.
comment in response to
post
Not necessarily. It would very much depend on their contract. Some were able to move, but not everyone could.
comment in response to

As for ‘being pressured and threatened’ the reality is if you go nonunion you lose access to alot of opportunities. This is because part of the union is companies that go union have to hire union employees - thats how a union maintains bargaining power for union members.
comment in response to
post
It’s not maybe - it is. The VAs are contracted with Formosa, that is who is being struck by SAG because of lack of protections. However if you are in SAG you can’t work for nonunion companies, so some VAs want hoyo to go union and hire VAs directly. Hoyo does not want to deal with EN VAs directly.
comment in response to
post
This is not entirely correct. Hoyo wasn’t struck but Hoyo doesnt hire EN VAs directly. Hoyo hires 3rd party companies for EN. One of the companies Hoyo contracted with was among the company’s that were struck which was why certain VAs couldnt return to work. Please do not spread misinformation.
comment in response to
post
Agreed. It would have been nice to see continued support for the original actors, especially since it was the third party that is causing the issue.
comment in response to
post
If I remember correctly Hoyo isnt union but they don’t hire EN VAs directly. Instead they hire multiple 3rd party companies that are are union to source their EN vas - which is why some vas could still work while others couldnt. The main one SAG had issues with was called ‘Formosa’.
