A version of Christianity that tramples the poor and marginalized in favor of the rich and powerful is a religion completely at odds with the teachings of Jesus.

As someone who has felt firsthand the terror and pain of deportations, I want to make it absolutely crystal clear that I will do anything and everything in my power to protect anyone going through that process. If you're looking for resources in West Michigan, let me know.

ICE is planning immigration raids starting Tuesday. Please amplify.

The way people responded to the hours-long TikTok "ban" really showed me a lot of yall are actually genuinely addicted and would probably be a lot healthier if it were permanently banned

Yup. Any institution exhibiting these characteristics is fundamentally broken.

The way immigrants are treated in scripture is the polar opposite of the way that many republican leaders want to treat immigrants and refugees. Jesus judges nations by how they treat the stranger, and boy howdy do we seem determined to treat the stranger among us like a pawn to be moved around

Breaking News: Saruman The White declares that the Gap of Rohan shall henceforth be known as the Gap of Isengard

Officially no longer using Facebook, and it feels so good. I was so tired of having most of the posts I saw not even be from accounts I followed.

“Yes, people want justice — as long as justice costs them nothing or very little.” — @davidfrenchjag.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2024/12/15/o...

Have you seen the Ohio Legislature's HB 700 @davidfrenchjag.bsky.social ? I'd love to hear you get into it on AO, it's hard-hitting content

The best part of being a Michigan fan is watching Ohio prove that they have the sportsmanship and spine of a jellyfish. Imagine trying to make celebrating a rivaly win a felony! Not even a misdemeanor lol. Hail to the Victors!

My favorite thing about being a michigander is that the lions are finally good

I'm not really a photographer, but I enjoy dabbling in it from time to time. This is my favorite pic I think I've taken, at Emerald Lake BC

The last few weeks have been very demoralizing as someone who tries to follow the example of Jesus. Reminded all the more vividly how important the season of Advent is. I eagerly await the return of Jesus to put right all the abuses the church does in His name.

This is wrong. The rule of law should apply to the president’s son just as it would apply to you or me. www.nytimes.com/live/2024/12...

Almost all the announcements feel like this

Advent is a very special season for me. We spent 3 years and 3 days in waiting for my wife's green card to be approved so we could live together again. We had no agency, and had to rely on someone else to deliver us from our separation. We are waiting once more for the return of Jesus.

Have you noticed that the allegedly pet-eating Haitian immigrants of Springfield, Ohio, are no longer an emergency? No longer a "thing"? Could it be that it was all a lie, designed to spread fear and get votes? Beware populism, beware demagoguery. It corrodes nations and souls.

It's always interesting when people find out that my wife is an immigrant and learn our challenge getting her here. Almost without fail, they immediately tell me that "she should have just walked through the southern border" Not only do they demonstrate ignorance, it's just plain insensitive

Preparing for a new book in the upcoming year on how Christians can/should rethink how we do political engagement with our neighbors. What books do you recommend I read as preparation? I've already deeply enjoyed Disarming Leviathan and The After Party.

So thankful for the peace, security and comfort I'm privileged to experience this year. Lots to be thankful for!

If there are any historians here who specialize in Bantu/East African history, let me know! Wanting to learn more about my heartland.

Contrary to what some may think, I've never loved Jesus more. He is still so relevant. It's the "followers" that discourage me

As it should be

Wow it's so nice to log into a social media feed and not be facing a firehose of AI content or regressive nonsense.
