... Every1 has to be a survivor and an obstructionist in their own little way and turn to their movements and communities instead of getting caught in the idea of 'the public debate' or v vaguely shifting some dialectic tide anymore

& feebly imitating rightwing clickbait is years behind when rly I think whats needed is leaping two steps ahead to reach out to grassroots resistance and listen to the left... things both of which the lib establishment failed to do for 4 years...
Rn I think doomerism has no place...

Yes yes! It really feels like its hollow self-assurance and relinquishing the responsibility to change the rules when faced w a political challenge that will break them for you... Like this much has been documented again and again historically in why democracy can never handle fascism...

I've been thinking abt how I keep seeing articles that are like 'yes, the dems ARE doing something' but then all of the things listed either arent anything or could be ripped up as easy as the paper they r on...
Or these promises that something legally will never happen & then within days it does..

Rest, if you can.
And look to build opportunities both rest and sanctuary, for yourself and others.
This will be a long fight. The more we can share the load and care for each other, the more likely we are to make it through to the other side.

And then I will say this:
Action helps.
Go to a protest. Write a letter to the editor. Call your senator. Build community by inviting a neighbor over for coffee.
And then, show yourself some grace. There is no shame in being tired when the load you carry is heavy.
Find sanctuary, if you can.

So here is another thing I want to say really clearly: there is a reason you are tired.
Mental load is labor.
Tracking all this fascist bullshit is labor.
Developing contingency plans is labor.
It may not feel like it, because there is no visible end product or achievement to point to.

That is a really terrible place to be, honestly.
It's all mental load and no measurable progress.
And as time goes on, it's where more and more of us are finding ourselves: taxed by the labor of mental load and vigilance and dread with no material progress or achievement to point to.

If you're in preparation mode, you feel a little nuts compared to everyone else but at least there's actionable work to do.
Once you hit the limits of preparation-- due to uncertainty, financial limits, or most likely a combination of the two-- all you can do is sit with your open loops and watch.

BUT if you are part of the crowd living under an awareness of what is happening-- and as a result stuck in a state of necessary vigilance and crushing mental load-- you are under an incredible amount of stress and performing what is quite frankly a ton of invisible and uncompensated mental labor.

How will we manage healthcare if Medicaid gets cut? CHIP for the kids and prayer for my partner and me, I guess.
Where to food shop with SNAP under siege and WIC potentially on the chopping block and FDA inspection vanishing? AP Calculus was easier math, honestly.

For those of us who do understand what's at stake, though, I'd like to introduce (or maybe reinforce) a concept:
Mental load.

There are a lot of people who still believe their individual responsibility and preparation will protect them, and they are really going to have a rude awakening unless trends change fast.
They fundamentally do not understand their own dependence on government. They think that's just for us poors.

We live in a society that has pushed that fantasy, along with a fantasy about how if you Do Everything Responsibly, you will be okay.
Those fantasies are getting punctured big time, even for a lot people who have always felt relatively secure.
