games are not the only thing to suffer from this, for example the "animation is cinema"-types

callbacks to the roger ebert feud. devs are too desperate for some kind of distinguished recognition when they should have just acted like "games are art" was already the case and just moved on. enamorment with awards ceremonies was a symptom of this

also semi-related i think the AI companies are operating on "borrowed time" for their ability to lobby the govt w/ limited resistance. praying for a hypothetical singularity AGI moonshot to fix everything soon is not enough. eventually AI will become a more directly partisan issue

on some level i am sympathetic to the current gen. e.g. research essay homework is soul-sucking and rigid. even if you like writing it can feel like a waste of time. however if you treat schools as 'factories' that produce adults that know how to do their job than this poses a continued problem

cheating is as old as exams are. >50% of the population have cheated at least once in grade school but back then it tended to be sporadic and often more "desperate" than "lazy." habitual cheaters usually get caught anyway. but it's now moving from single upsets to pervasive behavior changes

any public info on ur work's compiler?

this is one of the things our C++ shader compiler at work does. and allows us to use all our fancy point types and stuff on the GPU

the thing that most readily comes to mind is that the way we bind uniform data from CPU-land to GPU-land could be significantly lies disjointed

this is not CUDA C and i would not expect drivers to combine samplers automatically

yes! but doing the copies for the arrays is an ordeal that i am setting aside for later

this is gross but im in "proof of concept" mode not "clean this up" mode

really the most regrettable part of the civil war was that abolition was not possible sooner. obsessing over 'using non-violent methods' is naive

slavery would have ended eventually but with arguably more human suffering. what do you think would have happened if one state eventually decided to give it up?

did you ever get any sensation back up there?

later HTML did get stuff like <button> and the other form tags which used native controls but this was all like firmly in the netscape era

the first iterations of the HTML DOM before JS and java applets might have begun open conflict with the skeuomorphic tendencies of desktop windowing systems b/c hyperlinks stripped back the inherent "click me" psychology of a native button

also im reminded of the weird hobby of vexillography (flag design) which upholds being replicable by children as a virtue. in a similar fashion flat UIs can be created easily by anyone regardless of relevant skill. it used to be that widget toolkits compensated for this but this is less apparent now

i think what happened is that the web made things a lot more ambiguous by virtue of a site having its own distinct interface, so everything coalesced on something that seemed to have relative "neatness" and consistency

the engraving/embossing of the classic win32 design language suggests input and output respectively. this all stems from both the psychadelic metaphor-driven heritage of GUIs since doug engelbart and MS/Apple focus-testing everything into oblivion at new computer users youtu.be/OXfYJ39Lm6s
