We FINALLY pedestrianized the Market only to have a vendor allow a deliver vehicle in the ONE prime spot every visitor wants a picture of??? Ugh. We need to save them from themselves…

The US is going to need a proper GDPR-like data privacy and security law, ideally an amendment to the Bill of rights, after this national nightmare is through, good heavens

School board directors Joe Mizrahi and Sarah Clark on why the district's enrollment mechanisms are harmful to the kids they say they want to uplift. www.theurbanist.org/2025/05/08/o...

I think the administration doesn't have anyone in it smart enough or well-read enough to understand that the election of Pope Leo XIV is actually a slap in the face to them, which is how I read it. Leo I to Attila the Hun: "The people of Rome, once conquerors of the world, now kneel conquered. We

Reminder that now is the time to chat up Pike Place business owners while you're making a purchase. 👍"I love that it's car-free." 👍"I'm only here because they opened the street to people." 👍"I'm a local and I'll shop here now that the street isn't jammed with cars." 👍[make up your own]

This is as insane as $40,000 toilet seats. They're even doing this in brand-new and fully renovated buildings (eg Lincoln, whose boards aren't even 4 years old). Also, correct me if I'm wrong, THE CURRENT WHITEBOARDS WORK GREAT AS PROJECTION SCREENS

If you’ve studied Latin, this is a fascinating read.

“Learning style-theories don’t help much when applied to students, but they are useful when applied to content.” (p.164) @dtwuva.bsky.social Gotta love lazy Sunday mornings, curled up with a great book, hot coffee, and furry friend!! #CognitiveScience #ScienceOfLearning #LearningAboutLearning

Murdoch once enjoyed kingmaker status in Aussie politics. No longer. As I watch Murdoch newscasters lose their shit, great to reread our 2024 piece by Sean Kelly about how the mogul's downunder empire is increasingly out of touch with... actual Australians. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Rubio publicly criticizing an ally for cracking down on right-wing extremism. And Germany hitting back. We are in a new world

Seattle Public Schools is hiring a new superintendent. It needs to be a Hercules: someone who will divert rivers to clean out the central office, reject top-down approaches treating kids as widgets and parents/teachers/students as enemies. Restore public service & high quality learning. More here:

This is a cultural thing often; asking personal questions can be very very rude!

Exciting news! Yowza look at those endorsements. And I love the logo. joe4schools.com

I was sure this was a joke but no

The Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall—perhaps the most prominent shopping street in China—is a mirror of Shanghai's evolution into a liveable and prosperous megacity. As recently as 1998, it was a heavily trafficked thoroughfare, until all motor vehicles were removed as part of a redevelopment strategy.🧵

Hahaha

And yet, the rationale for waitlisting is "equity" and addressing privilege. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Southend Families Deserve School Choice. #LiftTheWaitlists

Oh thank God

This is a good article overall but I want to emphasize: *closing schools would NOT have saved money.* It's disappointing to see people quoted assuming that it would have. In fact, there is good reason to believe closures would have been fiscally irresponsible, worsening the district's deficit.

This resolution (the UIUC version of the “Rutgers Resolution” “Big Ten NATO Compact”) just passed the Faculty Senate with a vote of 141 Y, 4 N, and 10 abstain 🙌😄
