Ep4 of the "Case for a new collider" series is out! How can we map the Higgs potential experimentally? and why does such a mapping demand a new collider? πŸ€” The answer lies in the simultaneous interaction between multiple Higgs bosons! πŸ’₯πŸ’₯ πŸ§ͺβš›οΈ Link: youtube.com/watch?v=jod9...

I'm speaking with @stevengoldfarb.bsky.social and Yasmine Amhis about matter, antimatter, and bicycles. Podcast:

It's very clear where this kind of "physics is broken" nonsense finds purchase:

120 PeV. That's about 1/1000th of a Joule. For reference, an 80mph fastball is ~93J. So, a particle with so little mass that it was long thought they had none at all, had so much energy that it's approaching the energy regime of non-quantum object that will HURT you.

You might have heard about the detection of an incredibly high energy cosmic neutrino by an amazing, underwater experiment πŸ”¬ 🌊 I covered @km3net.bsky.social last time they broke the neutrino energy record! Check it out and know what all the fuss is about! πŸ§ͺβš›οΈ Link: youtu.be/ceB_M81LDhE?...

The future of particle physics: China = CEPC: Higgs width, mass, couplings CERN = Straight to FCChh as soon as magnets viable: di-Higgs work/Higgs potential + higher energy studies of EWSB. US = Continues neutrino program and uses synergies to push R&D for a mu-col. Thoughts? πŸ§ͺβš›οΈ

This weak on the @DandKUniverse pod, it's Weak Force Week! Episodes on the left-handed-ness of the Universe, and what 'weak hypercharge' is and what it tells us about symmetries.

Interesting discussion on why it may be important to keep studying the Higgs πŸ‘‡

One of the key aims of a new collider is to investigate exactly *how* and *why* electroweak symmetry breaking occurred. How and why did fundamental particles acquire mass? πŸ€”πŸ§ͺβš›οΈ www.youtube.com/shorts/tYsey... Check out the "Case for a new collider" series. Series link: youtube.com/playlist?lis...

#CMSPaper 1366 examines a large sample of particle jets for behaviour inconsistent with the standard model, using ambitious unsupervised, weakly supervised and semi-supervised #machinelearning methods. They were usually more sensitive than 'classic' particle physics methods https://buff.ly/3CZwpmr

I would have focused more on the possibilities re the matter antimatter asymmetry and mapping the phase diagram of the universe rather than the more YouTube friendly vacuum collapse stuff, but meh. It’s the sexy self coupling measurement that matters! πŸ§ͺ βš›οΈ www.theguardian.com/science/2025...

Ep3 of the "Case for a new collider" series is out! Why is mapping the Higgs potential at a new collider so important? Such a mapping may allow us to understand how the universe may end and why we are even here to ask any questions at all. πŸ§ͺβš›οΈ Link: youtube.com/playlist?lis...
