Paging @wolfganggradl.bsky.social
They've done stuff on a smaller scale. I don't see why they couldn't go bigger, especially when experts from around the world will migrate there (as they do to CERN and Fermilab)

I think they're pretty set on doing it, and CERN can't beat them with FCCee, given the LHC won't even finish operation until 2040+

Yep - it does seem that that gap would have to be filled with something like a linear collider that goes up to ~500GeV and produces di-Higgs through ZHH.
@koppenburg.ch is smiling somewhere...

I know many (e.g. @koppenburg.ch ) favour the building of a linear collider at CERN, as the thought of not going to higher energy/doing any di-Higgs work until 2070+ is problematic.
I am sympathetic.

I was disappointed too.
Hopefully, it’s a work in progress

Tbh, politicians usually care more about the training of people, economic benefits etc.

Yep - it still has a resonating effect, especially with US HEPers

We've ceded online spaces to contrarians and doomsayers.
It's time to take them back and make the positive case.

Some experts still think we shouldn't build a new collider right now, or certain colliders should be considered over others, but the vast majority of experts support a new machine in some form.
I will discuss the various forms in the next episode.

It's definitely an uneven playing field.
Saying "Everything is stupid and too expensive" is very easy and brings contrarian clicks and engagement. It makes people feel like they have a good handle on things.
Carefully explaining the case is difficult and takes time.

Yup - exactly!
It’s an incredibly exciting measurement and I’m pleased to see a lot of work going into analysis techniques etc at the (H)LHC
Even just determining whether the SM holds in two different phases of the universe (pre and post EW phase transition is fascinating)

My understanding is that calculations do currently suggest that our universe is meta stable but the expected lifetime of the vacuum is insanely long.
(Under the odd assumption that the SM holds up to high Higgs field values/energy, given current masses of Higgs, top etc)

I was being facetious ;)
Sorry - tone comes through badly in text.
Just shocked at how little experimental verification we have and how little *some* (often the usual and loudest suspects and no one here) seem to care.
