I audited this class 5 years ago as a PhD student and have been reaping its tremendous benefits, intellectual & professional, since my pivot to librarianship. What Soren always does is to bring over various rare books from his private collection to help us see history in concrete examples.

Chronological age was carefully measured in Han-dynasty Chinese historiography for both male and female individuals. Socially it was tied to people's military and civil duties, and for the elites in particular, their obligations to perform Confucian rituals (coming-of-age, marriage, mourning).
