Also, with SteamOS being opened up, maybe 3rd parties can make a SteamOS standalone HMD. Maybe we'll see the ROG Ally version of the Deckard. Maybe this sparks a new wave of standalone VR HMDs. Who knows. The Deck stirred up the handheld market a lot.

I don't think we're going to see that from Valve. Either Android XR or Meta's OS being more opened up is your hope there. Either way, Deckard is much needed for PCVR games. We keep getting shafted over here. Wanna spend 1.2k or spend double for a full PC and VR? I hope it's AVP levels of good.

I bet you most people buying an Index didn't have VR in the first place, so yes I assume their top selling version is the full kit. It doesn't make sense to see today's stats (most don't recommend an Index these days), so here's a screenshot from steams top selling back in 2022:

I just have this hunch that this HMD is going to be a shit ton more powerful than the Quests. Especially if it's expected to play PC games. We'll see. All this info is speculation.

Price is fine. Samsung's Android XR HMD will probably cost about as much. I don't think some understand just how underpowered the Quest is and how subsidized it is. Yea, Deckard and Deck are subsidized too, but Meta makes most of its money on data and ads. Valve makes money from their cut on steam.

Disturbing that there are too many people that are used to the Quest. I very much look forward to a standalone VR HMD that is pretty open and free to tinker with. I also look forward to Android XR for the same reasons. Apple and Meta have a locked down OS. I want to tinker.

If Deckard has a selling point of "you can play these games in 3D on a big screen" now we're talking. Deckard could open up interesting "exclusives" that are games designed to be in 3D, but still played with a controller. Not a move all around immersive VR game. I can see this being super cool.

Crazy how you think a $1200 VR kit is DOA when the 6 year old $1000 VR kit is still in the top 3 on Steam's charts. People buy phones for that much money. The ROG Ally is pretty popular even though it costs more and is just a Steam Deck with Windows with a bit more power.

It reminds me of the Lucid V5 prototype with the way splay works. Can't tell if it's using hall effect though. The fingers are using flex sensors that I've been hearing about from others. Ideas, ideas.

As far as I know, floatplane is more direct than nebula. You pay a subscription to access all of nebula but on floatplane you pay a subscription for that one person.

Twitch is only good at the live part, but not the vod part. Youtube is good at the vod part, but not the live part. It's frustrating because the changes that youtube has to make are very minimal to be very competitive to twitch. They have a huge advantage but they sit on their monopoly instead.

They are backed by one of the biggest companies in the world and yet they can't afford to compete with a platform they bought into. This is why youtube does nothing and why streamers from twitch moved back to twitch.

Regarding the audio comparison, that's with the Beyond's optional audio strap. I'm still not the biggest fan of the Beyond's audio strap, but that's not because of sound quality. I just don't think it's very comfortable. Weight makes up for a lot. Once you lay down with it on, it's horrible.

Also, the godrays are another downside of the Beyond, but in most cases you forget about them, just like you do with the Index. Although it is worse than the Index in that manner.

I do want to mod eye and face tracking onto the HMD as well, so the USB 3 cable routing idea would be needed anyway.

A lot would disagree, but you could also just mod this ability onto the HMD. Although, the USB port on the HMD becomes a bottleneck. I may look into this mod and additionally just make a very long USB 3 cable and ziptie it along the cable.

In my honest opinion, the biggest downside of the Bigscreen Beyond (to me) is that it lacks a camera. I understand the "at all costs" mentality of making this the lightest HMD ever, but the Beyond proves that there are tradeoffs. You have severely castrated this HMD from future PCVR changes...
