It's not overpriced compared to what other host bus adapters cost. The target for these tools is engineers who want a tool to get their job done, not a side-quest project. That said, I have no experience with this one, but most HBA are similar.

Like many words, how people pronounce it depends on their primary language and regional location. However, most of the dev team says Key-Cad. To me, the more annoying thing is how many people misspell it. It is spelled KiCad... Not KiCAD. It isn't an acronym! It is a made-up word.
