There is back up power for the safety critical stuff like Air Traffic , runway lighting etc. but not for the terminals, shops etc. so this is why it would shut for safety of the public.

The changes in the world since election this government could rightly be justified in implementing a temporary wealth tax to increase the defence budget, but Scared of their own shadows and being accused of raising taxes. Yes the wealth budget needs looking at but not solely.
