The saddest thing about this article is the kicker (end). The Trump-voting husband says “they [ICE] need to hurry up and figure this out,” as if the only way this ends is she is deported to Peru and will never be able to return. He *still* doesn’t get it.

multiple times this article mentions that even some *centrist* House Dems are urging her to primary Schumer tonight

Atlantic writers keep echoing each other with stuff like this, but they should answer these Qs instead: Which immigration policies should Biden have not adopted that he did adopt? Which changes to immigration policy that Trump is now instituting should Dems support, and which should they oppose?

For decades, the US government has painstakingly kept American science #1 globally—and every facet of American life has improved because of it. The internet? Flu shot? Ozempic? All grew out of federally-funded research. Now all that's being dismantled. 1/ www.technologyreview.com/2025/02/21/1...

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

Michelle Obama should explicitly repudiate her (very dumb) “when they go low, we go high” speech. It was wrong then, but now it is existential. No wrong notes fffs.

My first and definitely last time working with the Los Angeles Times. Editing out the most urgent point of an OpEd in the minutes before sending to press while then also assigning a title and image that suggest an argument entirely opposite to the author’s clear intent is pretty shitty.

"In response to [Trump's] move to freeze trillions of dollars in federal grants and loans ... [Dems] should have been immediately deployed to nursing homes and pre-schools in their respective districts," cursing the inhumanity of the cuts. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

NEW: My staff just got ahold of this memo from House Budget Committee Republicans. It's lengthy and hard to digest but it tells us exactly how Republicans plan to sell out the American people for another round of tax cuts to the rich. We're breaking down the highlights as we go:

I identify with everything in this essay. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Reinstate fair use rules for foreign-owned platforms….

AOC on the Dem strategy against the trans sports bill today, where they argued it would protect "predators," and ended up losing just 2 Trump-district Dems on it:

Montgomery County, MD adds about 1% of its housing stock in new units every year. Washington, DC adds about 5% every year. Prince George's is almost as bad as Montgomery County. Same with Howard, etc. We are choking younger generations and retirees. www.strongtowns.org/journal/2025...

The largest wildfire in Texas history just happened eleven months ago and destroyed thirty times more area than the one in Los Angeles

It’s disheartening to hear local officials in California saying these things. It would be great to read an explainer about what changes could be made by local officials in the context of post-disaster response. (I mean it would contain phrases like “zoning exclusions” so it would be barn burner. 😁)

The #BrokenTimes uses passive voice on Alito's behalf. He should not have taken the phone call. He should have said it would be improper to do so. But to him, nothing is improper. And the Times gives him slack.

The senior executive in charge of the (even more) rightward shift of Meta spent eight years in the GWB administration.

There should be an option, when you get a text, to swipe left and, in addition to “Archive” or “Delete,” there should be “Archive and Reply STOP.”

i think the most important thing for the left to do in the next few months and years is creating our own media. the msm is hot garbage. if we keep leaning on them we will go further and further into the maga cesspool. push truthful narratives,

What if, in addition to e.g. a march for common sense gun reform, reproductive rights, or universal healthcare, we had a huge conference encompassing all these topics, promoted like professional conferences are? I would spend time and money to go and connect with y’all and learn from experts.

If the Depp-Heard fiasco didn't, the Blake Lively smear campaign should drive home an important media literacy lesson that I'm afraid many are missing: when it seems like everybody is suddenly talking about something, consider the possibility that the viral moment was engineered.

This is a ULP (unfair labor practice) strike, not a boycott strike. Don’t initiate boycotts unless directed by workers — it packs a bigger punch!

MSM gonna MSM, but this an obvious false equivalence. Disgraceful.
