Also I’m not saying diagnosis can’t be and isn’t empowering to an extent. I just think it can’t be a sole focus to understand ourselves because ultimately that becomes how we understand each other.

Nuance exists and I’m making broad statements on bsky where 2 people see my posts but as someone who has been through the mental health system for years and feel like I’m relearning how to humanize my story *and* tell it myself rather than let others tell it for me-

We live in a culture of poor judgement based on narrow narratives rather than discernment. And I think that’s understandable for how much systematic hurt has been perpetuated but at what point do we stop doing that to ourselves and others by defining them as a flat line? A list of symptoms?

Like, diagnosis feels more like a way to assign a treatment plan and better understand a history of studied symptoms which is helpful to a point but I feel like becomes identity if someone lacks the ability to see themselves *and others* complexly.
A limited way to label each other and ourselves.
