Active transportation policy and other things. Always doing work I believe in. Need more naps and fewer meetings but here we are.

Just heard someone's cover of "Rainbow Connection" and realized the only possible version of this for me is Jim Henson singing as Kermit. youtu.be/YRPBUeVOimU?...

Referred to as wojak. Association with 4chan, antisemitism, bots spreading campaign disinformation.

Do you have to use that particular drawing to make this point? Do you know its origins and history?

A troll on an article I read yesterday claimed that walkable places make us "soft" so I think you nailed it. So much hardier and tougher if you get into a giant sofa inside a steel box with Surroundsound and let the engine do all the work.

In theory you could hear "so gas taxes should be much higher because drivers aren't paying for what they use on the roads anyway so we're subsidizing with federal income taxes" but somehow that's never what the user-pay people mean.

Me too. Cut off from the world around them. I raised free range kids who roamed the neighborhood and taught them to ride the city bus early, which requires navigation and planning. They took their friends on "field trips" to the mall to show you could go places without your parents.

As we discussed a while back, WSDOT doesn't regulate cities (or MPO grants). We tie requirements to our grants, provide design guidance like wsdot.wa.gov/sites/defaul..., quarterly Transportation Professionals Forums anyone can register for wsdot.wa.gov/business-wsd.... #WSDOTActive

All of the above! Plus smelling flowers and bakeries and coffee roasters and garlicky restaurants, hearing frogs bellowing for love in the night, stopping at a yard sale or a freebie box on a corner to score something fun, going down a street just to see what's there. #BikeLove #BikeSky #BikeLife

Yes yes yes! Random e-bikes for β¦.fun! To enjoy time with friends, to see your city in a new way, to pick up a few groceries, go to the library, to park close to the door! π The easiest add on to getting healthy and smelling the flowers!

One of the things I love about Olympia, WA, where I live now: Downtown waterfront with boardwalk, lots of benches there and on city streets, parks and green space, farmers' market. Public space, places to sit without having to spend $$. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Safety takes a hit from giant vehicles too. "the enormity of the heftiest 1% of US models offered modest added protection for their occupants, but a single life saved corresponded with twelve people killed in smaller vehicles during collisions." www.bloomberg.com/news/article... #RoadSafety #SUV

"We didn't start the fire
It was always burning
Since the world's been turning
We didn't start the fire
No, we didn't light it
But we tried to fight it"

@RepRickLarsen.bsky.social: "Thatβs the first thing I would point out ... to the administration β that taking this approach is actually going to result in infrastructure being built that is not actually safe for people to use."
