Christopher Luxon has set the bar for ministerial conduct so low Ministers have to sack themselves. Andrew Bayly should’ve been gone months ago. After finding out about the latest allegation on Wednesday, the PM waited days for him to resign when he should’ve been sacked asap.

David Seymour wants to make it easier to sell our assets, hocking NZ off to the highest bidder…and he wonders why I don’t agree with him. Investing in NZ is a privilege, let’s keep it that way!

Govt are getting excited about lower interest rates and publishing some truly misleading nonsense. My adjusted design is messy, but the numbers and text better reflect the reality. Couple more importants things on this subject... [🧵 1/3]

A few thoughts on the MPS today - it is painting a picture of a soggy economy for New Zealand. We have to actively choose something better. craigrenney.substack.com/p/banking-on...

Real men don’t barricade women and children. Real men don’t threaten and intimidate. Real men don’t preach hate. Real men DO show respect, compassion & love. Real men are comfortable enough in who they are to celebrate the diversity of others. Brian Tamaki you are just a boy.

Headlines from the first week back at Parliament. Not exactly a good week for the government. HT: @barbedmonds.bsky.social

This National/ACT government are working from the same old neoliberal playbook, defund public services, run them down, then use that as an excuse to privatize them. It’s based on ideology and the people who pay the true price are everyday Kiwis.

Kiwis are delivering their verdict on this government with their feet - 125,000 gave up and left last year. That’s a person heading for the departure lounge every 4 minutes. The National/ACT agenda of slashing and privatizing will only drive more away.

Maintaining government investment in the building of social housing is a productive use of taxpayer’s money. Instead we get tax breaks for tobacco companies and interest deductibility reinstated for all landlords…not just the new builds.

NZ’s economy wasn’t in recession before the election. In the past 6 months the economy has dropped faster than any time since 1991 (excluding COVID). This is what the politics of austerity does. Nicola Willis and Christopher Luxon are clearly making things worse not better!

NZ is totally off the track now with Nicola Willis spiralling our country deeper into recession. 🧵

I’ll just leave this here…are we back on track?

Minister of Finance: no I won’t give the costs as they are commercially sensitive. ACT: hold my cup…

A great week for the government…said no one. Ok maybe just the PM 🏠

Just another week under the Coalition of Chaos…!

Festive Creative Cost Cutting with Health Commissioner Lester Levy. Just to get you in the Christmas spirit. My Stuff #cartoon today #NZpol #HealthNZ #TeWhatuOra #HealthCrisis #HealthCare

Conventional wisdom in 2024 seems to dictate that the Covid-19 response was an overreaction, but that conventional wisdom is wrong. My analysis on the Royal Commission report and the response to it: newsroom.co.nz/2024/12/03/h...

New taxes (just won’t say what they are) and can’t remember the range provided by Tsy for Climate Commitments. You’d think given the fiscal cost MoF would be over her numbers.

Good news to wake up to this morning…said no one. Are we back on track?! Front-line hospital workers told jobs could soon be gone www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

Just catching up on Luxon's Q+A interview (yikes) and something that I noted was he kept saying that rents have stopped rising under this government. That isn't true. Not only are rents rising fast relative to past years, they're now rising faster than wages

This is happening on the National Party’s watch. Tax cuts for unproductive housing speculators, firing masses of public servants, stopping construction projects - all pulling the rug out from under the economy. The multiplier effect multiplying the damage. #nzpol www.rnz.co.nz/news/busines...

Unbelievable! The oil and gas lobby has asked the government to UNDERWRITE the risk of fossil fuel exploration, with the taxpayer potentially taking "some or all" of the risk if new gas supplies fail to eventuate as they are likely to do. #nzpol #nonewgas
