Something is shifting. They are still breaking things and stealing things. And they will keep trying to break and to steal. But the propaganda magic around the oligarchical coup is fading. (1/2)

Starmer visit to Trump Monday. Stakes high. Career defining perhaps. Former UK foreign secretary William Hague said it was the most important first bilateral between a prime minister and a president since the start of the second world war. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

A few beach tidbits this morning. California jackknife clam, kelp and Coquina clams, Brown pelican feather, and Pacific white Venus shell.

Sigh. FOIA started under Carter and only lasted a little longer than he did. youtu.be/wqka_Tn97qE?...

Think it's possible that this is why Dems are so scared to confront tfg. Dems know MAGA will shoot someone one of these days to make a point, and once they do that, there's no turning back. And then, any of us could get put up against a wall somewhere, and shot, and who will be there to avenge us?

Ian Fleming's original James Bond novels haven't aged well. For example, Moonraker - published almost exactly 70 years ago in April 1955 - features a villain who's a super-rich industrialist and rocket-maker seeking to cause chaos because he's a secret Nazi. Such a silly idea!

Just for this #Caturday, a throwback pic to Momo and his sister Cadee cuddling in 2016. You can tell a little from this pic: Yep, they looked quite different. Cadee was little and round and had a shorter, plushier coat. Momo was much lankier, even when he was chubby. Sweet lil weirdo cuties.

The Twitter outcome is legitimately very sad. What used to be a pretty fun place is now akin to a room full of the dumbest people you know playing Zoo Tycoon poorly while being entirely convinced that they’re actually engaging in serious and sophisticated wildlife reserve management.

Lost our jobs, getting bad medical care, Veterans Crisis Line failing... yeah, this is going to go well. I do not recognize this country anymore.

Love to see it!

100% this

Perhaps the social sciences, e.g., have a larger representation of those on the left not because something about them is inherently “biased,” but because the in-depth study of many of those topics leads one to some inescapable conclusions.

So there is a law that says the Pentagon can't just fire people willy nilly but have to carry out a review to ensure that it won't affect readiness. Why isn't there a law requiring that in every dept? How can it be legal for some rich weirdo to just take a wrecking ball to the U.S. govt?

😀

Met a flat-earther in the wild today, in person. Had so many conspiracy theories, about maps, pilots, fluoride, Bush, all overlapping & intersecting in the most bizarre ways that I couldn't even begin to disbunk. So angry, until I mentioned dogs, then he turned into a normal human. Just so weird.

Pope Francis, 88, in critical condition ROME — Pope Francis was in critical condition Saturday after he suffered a long asthmatic respiratory crisis that required high flows of oxygen, the Vatican said. He nails it.

Months ago, I complained about no bike parking at a new, nearby Aldi. Update: Though Aldi never replied to my emails, there is now a 🚲 rack! It's leaning slightly and is not anchored to the cement, but it seems sturdy enough to lock to while shopping and is located near the entrance. I'll take it!

Just had an excellent interview with @advocate.com, and I really think this one is worth your time to read.

The Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., said on Friday that it was investigating U.S. Representative Cory Mills, a Republican representing a district northeast of Orlando, in connection with a report of an assault on a woman this week.

Really enjoying the stories about congressmen getting yelled at about DOGE shit in their town halls. Not because I feel like it's necessarily going to move things in the right direction in the next election cycle or two, really. I just like stories about congressmen getting yelled at I think.

Every time I see these stories I don’t only think about how much effort it is to defend every single program, I think how much it must infuriate the people who thought they could just sweep everything away to keep getting told no. Tiny wins are still wins

Not fresh observation but the idea that “government should be run like a business” is an exceedingly stupid one that fundamentally misunderstands the purpose of a functioning democratic government. Redundancies in the event of any problem occurring are the point, not a failure or “bloat”
