This is your yearly reminder that alcoholism and addiction are serious and should be treated as such by mental health and physical health professionals, not brushed off. My mum would have been 66 today if it weren't for that horrible disease. Genuine love for anyone who suffers with it ♥️

Trying to socialize with neurotypical folks has often mad me feel like an outsider and like there is something wrong with me. But when I’m with neurodivergent folks, I feel like I’m actually welcome and understood which really demonstrates the saying ”find your people”

If someone makes it really, really, really big—bigger than millions and billions of dollars big—they should pitch in a fair share so everyone else has a chance. Then we can invest in child care, education, affordable housing, and neighborhood businesses to level the playing field.

Wow - I knew cutting Medicaid is unpopular. I didn't know it is *this* unpopular.

The most recent post I shared mentions autistic people expressing less interest in social activities. I'm very sad to experience this even within my Turtle WoW guild, also. That's all gaming and Discord, which is entirely online, but stressful. I don't feel comfortable talking to them about me.

The DSM: Individuals with autism spectrum disorder may appear to have a reduced interest in social interactions Autistic people (after years of being misunderstood, mischaracterized, and bullied): You think??

You can’t “try harder” your way out of disability You can’t “healthy diet” your way out of disability Many conditions are completely debilitating & the people suffering from them end up disappeared Non disabled people can’t face the reality of chronic illness, so they choose not too #WorldMEDay

When you become chronically ill, your world shrinks. You can’t do a lot of the things you used to. People disappear. It can be an isolating existence. That said, you learn to slow down, simplify your life & reject rampant consumerism. These skills will be invaluable when facing what’s to come

RFK Jr. just said “we will have definite answers (on the causes of autism) within a year…and very good answers within 6 months”. And then Bhattacharya (NIH) follows that by saying that henceforth all science will be done in a “deep and honest fashion”. You can’t have both of those things, boys.

I never had a problem standing up for myself until I became disabled. Because the thing about standing up for yourself is that you have to back it up with something. You have to be able to walk away or say no or not be dependant on that someone for survival to be able to hold your ground.

Struggling with social cues as an autistic person isn't necessarily missing them entirely. It's sometimes being painfully aware that someone's annoyed with you... knowing you're making it worse with every word... and having absolutely NO idea why it's happening or how to fix it.

If you're autistic and have... - temperature regulation issues - sleep issues - difficulty drinking plain water - difficulty regulating and managing your emotions, and/or - have a higher or lower than average sex drive There's science that could explain this.

I got to pet a friendly curly dog and his lady said "he likes you!" which is the best compliment you could ever bestow on a person

Oh fun. You have less than a week of predicted regular shopping left, Murica. 🫠🫠

I tend to think people are my friend much more often than is actually true, probably

this guy sleeps harder than any cat i've ever met

Less: Disabled people being forced to apply and pay to prove their disabilities to non-disabled people to get accommodations. More: Non-disabled people accepting that disabled people exist, wanting them to be included, and therefore offering accommodations freely and easily.

Repulsive is the word that comes to mind to describe this but it's not sufficient. 😧

Again, birds have a lot to teach us. #birds

A brief note from personal experience re: a traumatized brain and therapy The opportunity to speak and reflect on life with a trained counselor can allow unexplored thoughts to come out. This might be impossible otherwise. It's not my fault for having such limited communication.

I'm not sure it's useful to bemoan the rising tide of AI "cheating" on various tasks. It's coming, and we have to figure out how to live with it. We can push back against the idea that LLMs are reasoning agents or something close. dailynous.com/2025/04/23/a...

This post is re: RFK Jr

Sooooo we uninstalled Roblox on our kids’s tablets after I found the 8-year-old playing a game called “Need More Pee” with a “bad ending” that had him taking a gun to school. …yup.

Democratic Governor Tony Evers has successfully increased school funding for the next 400 YEARS in Wisconsin by crossing out a few numbers in a bill to change it from “2024–25” to “2425.” The state Supreme Court just upheld his right to do so.
