Thanks @franbottanelli.bsky.social for leading this effort! Addition genome editing plasmids are available on our labs addgene page. www.addgene.org/Jens_Schmidt/

Long in the making but our protocol for gene editing is online! FAB CRISPR is super easy and allows the generation of N and C terminal fusions with TurboID, SNAP, Halo and mStayGold. A single cloninf step to generate HDR templates! arxiv.org/abs/2502.12675 1/n

Looks like we're back teaching chemistry...😎

Happy to announce that MEDI, our method to quantify dietary intake through metagenomics is out now. 🧬 πŸ§ͺ🧫🦠 www.nature.com/articles/s42... #metagenomics #microbiome #microbiomesky So what is MEDI? A combination of two things:

πŸ”¬πŸŽ€ As pre-announced a few days ago... please let us proudly present to you: π‘΄π’Šπ’„π’“π’π•Šπ’‘π’π’Šπ’• - your ticket to imaging more, imaging more gentle, and/or imaging more efficient. πŸ”¬ doi.org/10.1101/2025... Like ❀️, repost πŸ”‚, and most importantly... please send feedback βœ‰οΈ our way! πŸ™

Excited to share a new paper from our lab πŸ˜€ We investigate the tumor microenvironment - to reveal factors influencing cancer progression & therapy response πŸ”¬πŸ§ͺ So we naturally wanted to ask - does the gut #microbiome influence brain #metastasis 🦠 🧠? Reposting this. The #postdoc position in my laboratory at KU-School of Pharmacy is still open until 2.9.25. Please apply if you have experience in proteomics and want to work in P450 drug metabolism. #hiring

Indeed impressive work.

Integrated the red laser and a camera into an OPM light-sheet system that can now do simultaneously TIRF and 3D imaging. Seems to work. Shown is the BSI prime camera for TIRF imaging.

I was not aware of the passing of the legendary Prof. James Kincaid at Marquette University. His groundbreaking work on cytochrome P450 spectroscopy, especially his seminal collaboration with Prof. Sligar, was a must-read during my grad school. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Did you know the NIH hosts a 3D printed lab hardware repository? Looking forward to uploading stuff there too. Go check it out! 3d.nih.gov

🧡Prepint alert! Optimizing Multifunctional Fluorescent Ligands for Intracellular Labeling | tinyurl.com/3n55hvsc. With Jason Vevea, Ed Chapman, and @so-lets-kilab70.bsky.social, we combined dye chemistry, HaloTag, microscopy and cell biology to make protein purification and manipulation tools.

Great piece by @statfourwork.bsky.social "Should a university be based on a model in which researchers are only valued for their revenue-generating potential, or do we still have any reverence for the pursuit of knowledge that is not obviously translational or even (gasp) fundable?"πŸ§ͺ

Here is an important read from an important journal ! To quote @davidsdickens.bsky.social from his earlier post, the authors "highlight several pioneering strategies that show promise for safely bypassing this barrier." #BloodBrainBarrier #cerebrovascular www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

More than 40 percent of #postdocs leave academia. Those who landed a coveted faculty position were more likely to have had a highly cited paper, changed their research topic between their #PhD and postdoc, or moved abroad after receiving their doctorate. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/... @pnas.org

#Hiring! The postdoctoral position in my lab at Pharm Chem KU is open!! This is an NIH-funded position to work on cytochrome P450 metabolism using a combination of mass spectrometry proteomics and live-cell imaging. employment.ku.edu/staff/29681BR

The PI right now in his office, managing his lab from Slack...

Did you know that many Europeans & descendants died a horrible death of pellagra (niacin deficiency) because maize was traded as a worldwide comestible staple without its indigenous preparation procedure? πŸ§ͺ Public health later decreed fortified flour to save lives. www.epicurious.com/ingredients/...

NEW: 2024 has just been confirmed as the warmest year on record, and the first to breach the 1.5C threshold. We used a ridgeline (Joy Division inspired) chart to visualise daily temperature anomalies since 1940. 2024 clearly stands out with 100% of its days above 1.3C and 75% above 1.5C.

πŸ’₯ Exciting news! πŸ’₯ Our R35 MIRA grant from the NIGMS has been selected for funding 😎. Yay! This grant will fund our (young) lab for the next 5 years and push our research in metabolic adaptation forward. It also means that...we will be hiring! 😁

People of Bluesky! Quote a favorite film using gifs only.

Hi there! The Dept. of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at KU is hosting a Q&A webinar for aspiring grad students. Besides being a top school, we have state-of-the-art facilities and are extremely successful in placing our graduates in the pharma industry. Reposts appreciated :)

How do I look for starter packs?!?

Hello Bluesky! The Barnaba Lab at KU-PharmChem works in metabolic adaptation, i.e. how our cells rewire their metabolism in response to chemical and nutrient stress. We’re a very young group, and we hope to make an impact in the broader scientific and non-scientific communities 😊 #rockchalkjayhawks
