we are currently accepting submissions for our SPRING 2025 issue, & we'd love to hear from you! ✨🌷✨ details + instructions: voicemailpoems.org/submit 💜 deadline april 1st 💜

Ok folks, tell us about your AWP events here - readings, not-readings, dance parties, whatever. We'll do our best to boost them, and anyway we need to figure out what we're doing once we get there

I cannot actually believe the submission window for Issue 18 of Stanchion Magazine is still open. If you got something, send it in! StanchionZine.com/submissions

I no longer believe art can save the world, but I believe still that it can save me. So in the face of chaos, misinformation, hatred & ignorance, I'm going to make more art, experience more, share more, pay for more & publish more. I started this in darkness & it'll continue to be my light. 🖤🤍

Oh man, this looks good

Cover reveal! Our newest book, FRONTIER, by Erica Stern, is both a memoir and a Wild West ghost story. Read more about it and pre-order here www.barrelhousemag.com/books/fronti...

(Now with working link!) My new book, BACKBEATS: A HISTORY OF ROCK AND ROLL IN 15 DRUMMERS, is out on 11/11/25. From Chicago blues to the Soulquarians and beyond, it’s a familiar story told from an unfamiliar point of view. Reach out for a galley or coverage! bookshop.org/p/books/back...

“Both a memoir and a Wild West ghost story.” I’m in! That’s one of the most intriguing book descriptions I’ve ever seen. Looking forward to it from @ericarstern.bsky.social and @barrelhouse.bsky.social.

This cover!!! Get your preorders in via the link below or Bookshop/B&N/ your fave indie

Hey AWP attendees (and LA locals)! You should totally swing by this scary cool trans horror reading on Friday 3/28! I'll be reading some brand new fiction alongside other talented creepy queers like @cavar.bsky.social, @cdeskilson.bsky.social, @mariahdarling6.bsky.social, and more!

Quick plug for @tmcallister.bsky.social’s new book, which I read in less than a day and punched me in the gut multiple times (complimentary). Out May 13!

The program is set for the @barrelhouse.bsky.social conference in DC on 4/12/25 and there's something for everyone: craft workshops & panels on fiction, nonfiction, poetry, publishing, writing life (and how to manage it in All This Bullshit). Hope to see you there! www.barrelhousemag.com/conference

nice

For the @barrelhouse.bsky.social newsletter (which has original content, you can sign up on our site) some of us wrote about our recent obsessions and I contributed a thing about the fake fireplace inside the real fireplace in my home office (and, you know, death and aging and model trains).

Just wanted to shout out that there's a piece in this P&W talking about hurricane Helene's impact on the literary community here in WNC. The writer interviewed me about Poets for Appalachia for it, and lots of other folks -- bookstore owners, the Punch Bucket Lit reading & nonprofit peeps, & more.

We won't have a table at AWP this year--travel logistics were a challenge-- but a couple of us will be floating around the convention center + we're sponsoring one reading that is just *barely* offsite

Most of these readers are MFA students at Rutgers-Camden, who have been involved in various ways with our events over the past couple years, and I can assure you they will NOT read for too long

A dream to have the next entry in my irregular, long-running Waffle House poem series published in the next print issue of @barrelhouse.bsky.social

We've got some previews of Issue 25 (which you can pre-order now!) on our site. First up: "Burning Down the Waffle House" by @dannycaine.com www.barrelhousemag.com/blog/issue-2...

good god, we used to be so young

Happy birthday to one of the greats. @barrelhouse.bsky.social has long set the standard for publishing good work, being good people, and building good community.

Thanks to @barrelhouse.bsky.social for publishing an essay about the most humiliating moment of my life, and how much worse it could have been. This is a preview of their new print issue which I hope you'll read because there are lots of good writers in it.
