Excellent talk at today's #VirtualPub by Chiara Stringiari, France BioImaging, exploring the technical possibilities & limitations of #FLIM and providing a fantastic overview of recent applications. Want to try it out? Available in #openaccess via France BioImaging & other EuroBioImaging Nodes!

Here are some data documenting the funding "pause" pulled from NIH Reporter. Current results (FY25) (Red) are compared with results from FY21 (first year of Biden Administration) and FY24. Note that data from Reporter lag behind release of NoAs by ~1 week. I will be tracking this going forward.

I just wrote to both MI senators and my representative about this issue and SO SHOULD YOU

If the block on the Federal Register isn’t removed in the next few months, I fear a majority of labs will close within a year. This small procedural wrench has the power to kill US science indefinitely, losing an entire generation of discovery and innovation.

Glad to see this post getting some traction, because the Federal Register is the WHOLE ballgame, folks. To drive this point home, a recent EO declares that all posts to FR now must be approved by the White House. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

This is a red alert for US science, for new cures & treatments for diseases that afflict everyone in this country. This isn't "oh, it will blow over." Soon we will have reached the point of no return destroying what it has taken decades to build. WE NEED TO BE BANGING DOWN THE DOORS IN CONGRESS.

"A freeze on meetings of expert panels that peer review grant proposals at the NIH is kicking in this week ... Trump barred NIH from posting new Federal Register notices, which means any study section not advertised before then cannot take place." #medsky 🧪 www.science.org/content/arti...

I’ve now heard the number: 41/47 study sections will not be meeting. Another end around to being forced to unfreeze the funds

Just received an email from a rep of a big company cancelling support to a conference I was organizing over the NIH budget cuts - with the prospects of sales down the company is cutting investment - this is food from local restaurants that will not be ordered - hotel rooms that will not be booked

There hasn’t been an NIH-related post since 1/21. Despite seeing upcoming study section & council dates in eRA commons, these will not take place if they weren’t announced. They’re starving us out until the next budget unless Universities step WAY up.

NCI Council cancelled. That means all grants in funding range from the 3d review period are not going to be paid out (including mine). They kill the best biomedical research system in the world to save 0.6% of the US budget in "waste". Cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer research, new drugs. Great job.

Temporary restraining order granted against NIH www.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

A judge blocked the funding freeze on USAid but: "The Trump administration confirmed to The Associated Press that it had taken USAID off the lease of the building, which it had occupied for decades." this is illegal and by the time the courts act, if ever, there wont be any agency left!

Trombone shorty and Jon Batiste are both Skidmore Summer Jazz Institute alum! Upstate NY represented!

My fav team right now is Tennessee! wow what a never give up attitude kind of team! Pat Summitt is smiling in heaven!

Amazing day in women's college basketball! Full and enthusiastic gyms in Indiana, Texas, Louisiana and many other places.... really amazing progress.

Great lunch of the Multiphoton microscopy conference speakers at SPIE Photonics West! @digmanlab.bsky.social and many others!

Great session today on FLIM! Thanks to Ammasi Periasami for a great session! @barroso8.bsky.social @chiarastringari.bsky.social @stimulatedraman.bsky.social Michael Börsch Laura Marcu Melissa C. Last day with TissueFax slidescanner demo from TissueGnostics! Fast and high resolution confocal imaging, 6 slides or more depending on the version. Taylor, core manager of AMC's imaging facility, got very nice images of whole-tumors. Moreover, the software allows for easy to use imaging analysis

Lovely ER staining in figure 5.

SWIR intensity (top) and NIR lifetime (bottom) imaging of HER2+ spheroids (~500um) using a lightsheet mesoscope developed by Luis Chavez (intes-lab.bme.rpi.edu/people). Look for exciting new stuff coming from the Intes-Barroso collaboration in 2025!

Thanks for the great for the Barroso-Intes-Corr labs holiday party! Its wonderful to see everyone together and enjoying themselves. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Congratulations to Mohd Saqib for being awarded a Keystone grant from The Histochemical Society. Mohd's project is entitled "An Integrated Imaging-Based Approach for Measuring Tumor Immune Suppression Involving PD-1/PD-L1 Interactions and Immune Response Dynamics". Well-deserved Mohd!

Very excited to tell you about a great review on "Modeling intratumor heterogeneity in breast cancer" published in Biofabrication. This was mainly the work of Liz McDonough with David Corr, RPI BME, in collaboration with Fiona Ginty from GE research labs and yours truly. doi.org/10.1088/1758...

Today @gabbyfredman.bsky.social and Albany Med welcomed Dr Serhan, from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, serhanlab.bwh.harvard.edu, for an outstanding talk on the lipid mediators and mechanisms in inflammation resolution. Exciting research and wonderful clear presentation!

Congrats to Dancan Oruko for his presentation on "Machine learning Profiling of metastatic cancer cells" at the Pharmaceutical Sciences Capstone and Thesis research party at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences! Great job Dancan!

Congrats to Xavier Intes and Vikas Pandey intes-lab.bme.rpi.edu! Their proposal, "Optimization of Hardware-based Neural Network Accelerators for Fluorescence Lifetime in Biomedical Applications" was selected as a Future of Computing Research Collaboration project, an RPI and IBM partnership #FLIM

Very excited to finally show the new paper of the Barroso-Intes collaboration! Using FLI FRET to assess the role of tumor microenvironment in antibody-target engagement using in vivo noninvasive imaging onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

First Princeton paper! Activity-based sensing plus narrow Raman signatures enable multiplex copper imaging, revealing crosstalk between high antioxidant response element NRF2 activation and low labile Cu in cancer. Fun project with Wei Min’s lab at Columbia! #chemsky pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...
