Randall Flagg. Randall Flagg also lives in his house.

The attack on DEI shows why liberals should stop arguing about "strategic" use of language forever. DEI stands for three uncontroversial virtues that most every American accepts, and the right still turned it into a vile slur. It doesn't matter what you say - they will poison it because YOU said it.

Much better ideas than Nate's regarding the understandings of competent historians in the comments.

I’m once more seeing way too much “lol why are you surprised by this bad thing omg you’re so naive to think it’s worth trying to do something about it” and, like, that’s called a demoralization campaign, kids. No matter how many affinity group signals it has plastered all over it.

If the timing works out, Americans might be able to buy a carton of eggs with that $5000 check

You know it, if the Pope dies, Trump will try to appoint a new one all by himself. And try to relocate the new Pointiff so he can turn the Vatican into a beautiful casino.

When we talk about 'funding crisis' we should really distinguish between whether it's a temporary cash flow/liquidity problem, or an insolvency one. With PBOT, it's insolvency, and I don't think it's a bad thing we are where we are. 🧵

Portland, Oregon: How many times have the world's injustices brought us to these very same blocks?

Five years after the summer of 2020, it still feels weird to go to a street protest without a mask.

We're building Neville Chamberlains out here America by the hour, but there's opportunities for many people to get in the history books in the right way

Somehow Eric Adams is the most corrupt cite official NYC has ever had, and that is a difficult thing to be!

the autocracy is here, it’s not coming, it’s not wait and see, it’s right now

These are suggestions, if they work for you. Personally, I can't. Google has realized the early cyberpunk dream: it's basically a government now, and I'm not ready- yet- to leave either it or the USA. I'll fight from the inside. I think that's my decision, for now.

OK. New York has wanted to be the resistance capital since the 2nd Bush admin. Here's their chance. You can't depend totally on the West, we have these tech bros to deal with.

It's not entirely fair and I'm sure it hurts at this end of his career, but Biden's name is going to look a lot like Neville Chamberlain's in the historical record, if there are historians around to write the record.

Finally some east coasters are resigning rather than follow Trump's corrupt orders. We can't do it all when he gets to the West

Welp, Bluesky isn't perfect. Some people here apparently care about American football.

The thing that gets my depression up is that even if we were to get a few victories from the good guys, things will never be the same.

I don't know any headline is bad enough to break the fever, but Elon Musk's Ketamine Dealer Is Gutting the Department of Education might do the trick

So everybody saying we don’t need to worry about any of this stuff because it’s not legal. When do those legal folks step in and turn everything back to normal? Is that happening Monday? Tuesday?

I'm not leaving Facebook because even though the motherfuckers are there, so are my mothers and they still want to see family pictures. But the social media icon on my phone links here. Feels more homey these days, even if I barely know any of you.

If we ever claw our way back toward a working USA, still gonna be a lot of organizations exposed as collaborators.

And the media was all “Odd-looking.” “Appears to Seig Heil." “Allegedly similar to.” There’s nothing else on Earth that thing can be; that gesture is literally only one thing in modern history. Where the hell is our media???

Remember: it’s all local now. Everything you are passionate about at the national level has a local analog that needs your attention. The time and effort you put into making your place stronger and more prosperous will make a huge difference.

Oh, right, New York Times, it's the "competition". That's why Tesla is falling out of favor.

Here's a tip for Portland's incoming electeds: carfree zones (esp on key days and hours of the week) can help boost your local retail. (Probably more than free parking, but who knows - let's try both and compare.)

Getting your vaccines became a lot more fun when it became an act of civil disobedience.

I have relatives who showed that they would sacrifice American democracy for the price of a loaf of bread, and moderate Dems think Biden's supposed to sacrifice his son to save it? His name's just "Joe", not "Abraham".

I love that there are so many new people here, but I could have done without the spammers finding us.

Effective immediately, I’m imposing a bike lane tariff on all streets without safe cycling infrastructure. Businesses without bike parking? Double tariff. Motorists idling in bike lanes? That’s a luxury tax. My revenue projections indicate we’ll fund a protected bike lane to the moon by Christmas.
