Patricia Bauman died a year ago. ActBlue is a payment processor. Almost anyone who’s given to a D candidate in the last 20 years could be mischaracterized as a “ActBlue funder.” Listing five Jews, two of whom are long dead, as “ActBlue funders” secretly behind the Tesla protests is antisemitism.

Everybody (me included) is getting bogged down on the details of events at NIH et al. Fatal mistake. The big picture is Musk/Trump are trying to shut down all gov-funded Medical/Disease research in the US. Have to understand that to have any hope of stopping it. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/act-now

Give you one guess

"One thing I would recommend is if you’re going to cancel your subscription to the Washington Post, don’t entirely remove those dollars from the news space. Take that money and at least invest it in an organization or a publication that you think is aligned with your values."

I’m still processing what we saw in the Oval Office and it’s difficult to put into words how disgusted and ashamed I am. This was a coordinated assault on an ally to benefit a dictator and authoritarian regime. Trump and Vance aren’t just Putin’s puppets, they’re his assets.

I cannot remember a moment in American history when our foreign policy shifted so dramatically & quickly. Trump doesn't want to be the leader of the free world. He wants to join the autocratic world. I hope the US Congress and the American people will prevent this switch.

Elon Musk and his 19-year-olds have now disrupted the approval of medical devices that save lives. Every member of Congress bears a responsibility to stop this right now.

HIRED THUGS This Shocking Moment at a GOP Town Hall in Idaho Is a Foreboding Sign Private, unidentified security personnel dragged a woman out of the event. It raises questions not just about tolerance for dissent but about who gets deputized to do what. newrepublic.com/article/1919...

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

Last night I attended the Save Our Services rally in New York City. Listen to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) fighting for people & federal workers: “Every day our job is to wake up and say ‘what can I do today?’ — There is no act too small. Every action matters.” @aoc.bsky.social

Good stuff from Portuguese editorial cartoonist Zez Vaz.

Once again I am leaving the Munich Security Conference in a low mood. Amongst all the noise, the US signalled their plans for Europe, so things are becoming clearer. But things are clearly not good. This is what we now know, and what we have to do about it:🧵1/17

One thing Democratic leadership could do right now is to name an alternate HHS secretary--someone to provide ongoing public updates and health information. And do it for other departments too. Start showing voters what a Democratic government would look like--press conferences, speeches, all of it.

"Our party must act swiftly. There’s no time for hesitation. Or delay. Or dawdling. Or dragging our feet. Or indecision. Or dilly-dallying. Or stalling. Or hemming and hawing. Or equivocation. Or grandstanding. Or mincing words. Or slow-walking. Or procrastinating."

I concede that on one level the ‘Gulf of America’ idiocy is just a toddler screaming in his sandbox. On another, I wrote a novel 35 years ago, TIGANA, about how tyrants erase (or try to) names, history, art to consolidate their control of people. So, it matters. Symbols do. So does acquiescence.

As @katwithsword.bsky.social said, for reasons, I love that their names are here.

This is morally indefensible and strategically bankrupt. It’s just letting people die on purpose and it makes us weaker in every way.

Everyone who pushed not voting for Biden or Harris because of Gaza can go fuck yourself from the river to the see you dumb & dishonest fucks we told you what would happen & you should be shunned from Democratic/liberal/progressive politics until you die

Hey everyone. It’s Feb 3rd, and the Democrats have been at home since Jan 24th because the house is out of session. They should have come back, the place is on fire. Get suing, messaging, demonstrating, speaking, everything and ANYTHING

Democrats need to learn how to treat real scandals with the same intensity and seriousness that Republicans use on bullshit like Hillary's emails and Hunter's laptop. Non-stop circus. Run shifts outside treasury, someone there 24/7. Make them prove they're not breaking the law.

@yair-rosenberg.bsky.social This post wins the day.

It’s important to know that a lot of productive activity is happening in person and offline, too. Not all of it can be broadcast online, but we’ve had hundreds of people showing up to our trainings, mobilizations, and more. Keep going. Tyranny is eroded by a sea of small acts. Everything matters.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent. Opportunities are everywhere. Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

Ask yourself, do you want to live in a country where people have to pay off the president so that he won't threaten you with legal and regulatory sanctions?

You literally couldn’t design a worse Democratic response to Trump in a lab. This abandons democracy, gaslights the Dem base, encourages other media to underreact to Trump, cedes attention, all while ensuring Dems continue to focus on the issues they KEEP LOSING ON.

"We're libertarians unless our bank account is uninsured or China is threatening our VC investments."

A “hoax.” I have experienced a curious mix of feelings while having a significant portion of my life’s work in books and the art of my friends distorted and vandalized by post-literate fascists for the last few years. The feelings right now are uniquely awful. www.ed.gov/about/news/p...

This thread is wonderful. @guygavrielkay.bsky.social

the lack of energy and resistance on the liberal/left makes sense to me after that kind of defeat, not only due to exhaustion, but because the previous term proved resistance to things Trump *says* he'll do was not effective, so waiting for things to actually get bad starts making more sense

I can not stress this enough for the next 4 years: Believe what you see unfolding with your own eyes & hear with your own ears. They will try to rewrite history as soon as it happens. They'll diminish it, spin it, downplay it. You'll know what you saw. You'll know what you heard. Believe it.

Eight years earlier, I would've looked for a "Peanuts" strip of defiance. Now I think that this one from October 7, 1968, captures the mood.

Love starting the day with a sense of terror and sadness.

REMAINS OF THE DAY is one of literature’s finest damnations of fascism (especially as it exists among the upper crust), so now I’m going to crawl into an underground bunker with the other people who actually know how to read books
