Novel: Sleeping Worlds Have No Memory by @barsukov.com. Easily my favorite book of 2024. It's hard to classify - fantasy? gaslamp? political commentary? - so let's say all of the above. And, as the author puts it, it might get him in trouble with the Russian government. Review by Paul Di Filippo

The story is exquisite and very vivid, and must admit I’m an absolute sucker for two narrative threads going in opposite directions in time. The last scene being chronologically the very first one, coloring everything that came before it—that just WORKS for me.

It's an amazing novelette—beautiful & deep & full of feeling—and it again reminded me why working with you on "Tower" was the best period of my writing life.
I'd been craving to read it since your blog post about the blue man :)
It's on the Nebula Reading List now:

Hehe, I had no console at all, and my first computer was a ZX Spectrum home-built from components people brought back from UK business trips. 48K RAM, a 5-inch floppy drive, a tiny black-and-white monitor :D

Not sure it would matter anyway. Sanctions only help Pooten tighten his grip on Russia. You can't fight a dictatorship with democratic means ...

“Baba Rechka” was one of the most beautiful things I've read. It was seriously like a shot in the arm for me—I don't know how to explain it ... Like a piece of the things I lost coming back. I can dream again of the river my Dad and I used to bike to—thanks to you.

Yep, he adores his little crypto toys ... If only he could keep his sandbox to himself, right?
