Sounds grouchy but USE your local indy. We have authors email with a new book who say they are local but we’ve never seen them before. Where do they buy their books? Indies form valuable connections & support newbies, make friends & go the extra mile to sell stuff if there is already a relationship.

Loud praise/positive reinforcement for people doing good is just as effective & key as the alternative right now. Keep those companies motivated to stay on the path!

I can tell you that I’m in regular touch with members of that intellectual freedom task force and their work is only ramping up. The commitment is true and holding! And the more the company hears how meaningful this is to us, the better. So, be loud!

I’m so glad. It was the same for me. Hearing editors bravely name exactly what we are fighting against and also champion how we can do it put air behind my wings.

On the same day, our CEO wrote to us and to our authors to affirm the company’s continued support behind making sure these inclusive books remain on library shelves, and that authors of marginalized identities feel safe. In the midst of so much horror, please know that publishing is not lying down.

I have spent years regretting the email I sent a man after one terrible night, where I apologized to HIM for what he did to me. Were anyone to see my email, they would never believe my true story of that night. I believe every word of that article and I imagine the full truth is so much worse. (3/3)

Does the world finally understand that for many women, our indoctrination to please & to avoid angering men combined with histories of abuse often yield this result where we smile and reassure the very men who hurt us? (2/3)

I'd love to connect to my participating colleagues. And if you could not participate, here's a link to the resources I prepped for the event. The internet is forever-ish. docs.google.com/document/d/1... #teachers #librarians #writers
