Charlotte, I have always thought you to be an excellent writer; this is undoubtedly your best piece. Thank you for using your voice to speak up during a time of turmoil.

I'm willing to bet you know a dozen dads named Matt, though.

I worked on this story for a year and...he just tweeted it out

Looks good - a nice, cool look for warmer weather. Who knew they made seersucker that wasn't striped? 😊

Is that blue jacket seersucker?

Thanks, I know I can always count on your expert fact-checking 😂 I've never had the pleasure of trying a loose beef sandwich but it's on my to-do list

@titonka.bsky.social Is this accurate?

A shrewd debate tactic. Grimy, for sure, but possibly effective on anyone who doesn't know that "sweeps" never meant arrests anyway.

Aha, thanks for the clarification! I learned something today and I'll ponder on this farmplace concept later while I'm stuck in traffic haha
comment in response to post
On second thought, maybe this is exactly the point of your newsletter
comment in response to post
This is beside the point of this newsletter but can you teach an East coast city slicker something? Multiple times you used the word "farmplace" - what's the difference between that and "farm" or "farmhouse?"

How am I a 30-something adult and still periodically finding junk items like this from my own childhood? It's pervasive and everlasting.

Light weight babayyy!

You know what? It's my own fault for assuming after the first 4 points that this was going to be an earnest, sappy post. I should have buckled up for the wild ride 😂

Filing your taxes is a bitter herb indeed.

Your standard email signature should include "I know what I'm talking about. Ok."

Can I sign up to wipe glasses with a dirty rag and then do an exaggerated double-take when the first punch gets thrown?

Is anyone really surprised by this though? He's clearly been an opportunist all along - he'll go with whomever is most likely to get him elected. Not a lot of principled decisions happening here, merely a means to an end
comment in response to post
I do, and that's actually why I finally broke down and registered Democrat. The primary is where the election functionally takes place, obv. Still doesn't feel great though - is this really "my" party?
comment in response to post
Of course I know that no political party is perfect, voting for a candidate is like riding the subway and not taking a taxi, etc etc. But it's the principle of the thing. How is an individual voter supposed to square all this in their mind?
comment in response to post
My understanding of all this barely scratches the surface but this is exactly the kind of stuff that has made me reluctant for so long to register with the Democratic party. I'm politically liberal but how do I justify aligning with a party machine that pulls this kind of BS?
comment in response to post
Great piece, Rachel. Thanks for continually exposing the seedy underbelly of local politics that most of us never see otherwise.

@geoffrbennett.bsky.social @amnanawaz.bsky.social Congratulations to you both, very well deserved. Thank you for being a trusted source of news and for helping to create an informative and entertaining program every day. Looking forward to your many more years of success.

Sweet! Love how a little item like that can "pop" in an otherwise plain (not in a bad way) outfit.

That's an interesting looking belt buckle - can you share a closeup?

100% agree. The purpose of doing those games isn't to keep me mentally sharp. It's to inflate my ego and make myself feel smart.

"And they made the wheels out of piano wire!" Yeah, sure, ok buddy.

I scramble right, green grass in front of me. My legs carry me forward toward a big gain. All the while I keep my eyes downfield, seeking an open receiver. Finally I find one and I throw a dart to a diving TE 20 yards downfield. I am flagged for an illegal forward pass, as I am 3 yards past the LOS.
comment in response to post
Definitely gotta make the Ravens receivers work extra hard. Tire them out, make them fight for every blade of grass. Slowing them down or rerouting them is especially important if you've commited an extra defender to spy Lamar

Yeah, the city has changed a lot (population, demographics, economy, etc.) in the last 40+ years. Government should evolve with the people it represents.
comment in response to post
Finally made some time. Remarkable that multiple studies in the 20th century suggested something needed to change. Surprise, surprise, everyone seemed to like adding district representation except those in power. Curious, how has your view changed since you wrote this?

Mesh concept finally yields a big gain!

Thorough, as always! Not going to have time right now to read the whole thing but I promise I will later.
