Canada (Nova Scotia) is home of the heart, Netherlands is physical home, and I worry about the state of the world. Single cat lady, music lover, choral singer, wannabe pianist, embroiderer, pretty good home cook, former technical writer.

This is why I always turn off wifi when playing a game on my tablet or mobile device.

So sad to hear this. Hers was one of the voices I really missed when I moved from Twitter. Brave, honest, and always from the heart.

Yes, and also cookbook designers who make similar choices with pastel fonts and low contrast backgrounds.

Every voice? Women? Slaves? Migrants? We need to be careful when considering the past as an ideal. Part of the problem with what is happening in the world today is the othering, misogyny, and sense of superiority (racism) that was also inherent in ancient Greek culture.

One of my 7-year old cats has started doing this in the middle of the night with my stretchy gloves. She has to jump up on a high cabinet and fish them out of a bowl. It's now spring and time to put the gloves away. I wonder if she will turn to socks.

I wonder if the Swedish term is as loaded as the English. The similar Dutch word "achterblijver" literally means "one who stays behind", which can be one who stays behind as others go out , or a survivor (of someone who has died), one who is slower academically, or who trail in a race.

It's a moving quote, the last lines of Jack Layton's letter to Canafians before he died.

Ah yes, I think I got a bronze one for swimming, the only physical activity I have ever been any good at. I wonder what ever happened to it.

Laughing Whale is a local Lunenburg roaster. It's premium stuff but absolutely delicious. You should be able to get it at listed locations. And they also ship. laughingwhalecoffee.com/retail-partn...

A jello salad? That's very retro of you. I haven't seen one since the 1970's!

I love the vibrant colours. Such a change from the usual baby pastels.

Discovered them on an Air Canada flight coming from Europe. They are the GOAT. Absolutely addictive.

I love the metric system, and I'm old enough to know the imperial system. I just wish Canadian recipes used weights instead of volumes for dry ingredients. But I've been living in Europe and have a scale. So much easier and more consistent.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Marieke. It was clear you adored her, and losing her leaves a hole behind. Hugs to you and your mom.

Glad to see you here! I really enjoy your long form podcasts and am amazed that you manage to produce such well-researched, professional quality podcasts while having a day job.

Too bad your evolution tour completely skips the Atlantic provinces. If you ever get to Nova Scotia, check out the Joggins Fossil Cliffs . m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZL3s...

Amsterdam reduced the speed limit to 30 on most roads. Some arterial remain 50 but traffic has definitely calmed. I think most drivers have slowed, but not necessarily to 30.

I hear you. I'm always shocked by the repetiotion and padding in tv docu's on US channels. The Brits generally do better.

Saw Gord live in the old Capital Theater (RIP) in Halifax in the early 70s. Loved him then, and still do. A very fine dong writer.

Incidentally, I recommend everyone have an account on one of the larger, EU-based Mastodon servers, even if you don't use it. Bluesky is going to come under tremendous pressure in the upcoming political environment, and you'll want a backup if something happens here.

I did this for years too. I now have a couple of plastic frames for wrapping them around. I keep part of the original box with each string so I can easily see how many lights each string has. Put them in reusable fabric gift bags for storage.
