Always great to get out on my annual practical work session with @wrenwildlife.bsky.social

Skylarks were singing away this morning. Fences going up this week so hopefully we’ll get a few pairs breeding!

📢📢 📢 3 DAYS TO GO. COME PROTEST YET ANOTHER PERSON KILLED WHILE CYCLING. This Monday 24 Feb 6.15pm. Stratford High Street. https://buff.ly/4jXzEvO

⚠️ 3 of Newham's 4 most #DangerousJunctions for cycling on TfL Cycleway 2, where the cycle track vanishes 💔 Last month a man in his 20s was killed 📢 Join our protest on Mon to tell @transportforlondon.bsky.social and Newham Council to save lives on #StratfordHighStreet 📢 lcc.org.uk/events/newha...

I know this area well, consistently agressive driving where a proposed traffic filter was put on hold after a local petition against it. This incident must have been terrifying for the family. At some point we need to ask: is the ability to drive through all roads at all times really worth the cost?

This happened to my little boy on Tuesday evening. Please sign and share to pressure Newham Council to make the streets safer for everyone, especially children.

A local resident has started a petition to push #NewhamCouncil to install an LTN that has been proposed since 2020 after her 3 year old son was hit by a driver trying to pass them on their way home from nursery. If the LTN had been in place, this would not have happened. chng.it/fdMjmQxkQw

It was fantastic to have Travis & Sigrid on our ride last week. Sigrid needs safe routes after dark too!

Transport is a gendered issue. Great to see our work - showing that in England, women made over a third more bus journeys than men - featured by @unison.org.uk. The severe cuts to bus routes have disproportionately affected women, especially in rural areas. magazine.unison.org.uk/2025/02/11/o...

Fantastic article about last night’s ride by Rebecca Armstrong!

More people were killed while walking on London's streets in October than were killed while cycling across the whole of last year. Let that sink in. If the Mayor and TfL are serious about targets to reduce road death to zero then this crisis of death on our roads must be treated as an emergency.

Nearly one quarter of Transport for London’s Cycleway network is “socially unsafe” after dark, London Cycling Campaign finds. Read more: zagdaily.com/trends/nearl...

"My local cycleway is unusable after dark." "Two guys tried to block the cycle path." "I will never ride here again. I felt so unsafe." Over half of London's official TfL Cycleways are unsafe for women after dark. Full LCC report w/ @forestbike.bsky.social & Madison UK lcc.org.uk/news/womens-...

Excellent podcast from The Standard with @rosslydall.bsky.social talking eloquently about our report & the concerns it raises podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/t... @londoncycling.bsky.social

Great opinion piece by @lauralaker.bsky.social quoting our report www.bikeradar.com/features/opi...

Full details of our report & its findings are here - lcc.org.uk/news/womens-...

Really important bit of research. I hope #TfL will take heed. It highlights the route by #Millwall Stadium which frankly feels unsafe on foot or bicycle in the day, let alone after dark.

[NEW] 24% of Transport for London cycle network unsafe after dark 🔦🔦 Unlit canals, locked parks, assaults & more on official TfL Cycleways, with 11 Cycleways over 70% unsafe after dark. Full report by LCC Women's Network, supported by Forest e-bikes & Madison UK: lcc.org.uk/news/womens-...

More than half of London’s official cycleways include sections that are unsafe for women to use at night, according to new research. www.standard.co.uk/news/transpo...

Sick of bad news? Try this healthy dose of positive climate news from the cycle path 💚 Enjoy cameo from my daughter Zena - decides she can do a better job 😅 we’ve all been there. Let me know if you’d like more of these 🎞️

Not looking hopeful for net zero and cargo bikes logistics in the UK when the largest private company doing last mile has to call in the administrators? Another slight on this governments inability to incentivise cargo bikes with any conviction. Must do better. news.sky.com/story/electr...

Excited for this. I love the other picture app but it’s definitely time to start the move away from Meta… techcrunch.com/2025/01/15/b...

Brilliant to see improved #access and #inclusion for hire cycles with these passenger-carrying Forest bike models - such an important improvement!!! (Nobody under 16 can hire these & many Disabled ppl can’t ride solo, so passenger capacity is soooo important for many people)

Spookily, I was talking to someone about this route last week. Of course now I can’t remember who it was… 🤣

💬 Have you ever cycled a historic route? Laura Laker & her friend Claire spent 3 days on Hadrian’s Cycleway. Starting in Whitehaven, they followed quiet roads and off-road paths, tracing Roman history through stunning landscapes from flat coasts to rolling hills. cyclinguk.org/riding-roman-roads

This is so key. Transport planners in most cities only consider the commute when they plan cycle routes. That’s not how you get more women on bikes. It’s also not how you stop people driving the school run!

This is the only flag I’m flying today. For Janey. #Trumpisacunt Let’s make it trend.

I'm only halfway through @lauralaker.bsky.social's book but it's ruining my life. I've already planned a 68mi birthday ride to the coast, bought a pair of gravel tyres (never needed them before) and am considering taking an NCN path to a film shoot in Cumbria. DO NOT read this book. (5 stars.)

Have just sent off my message to @london.gov.uk & @transportforlondon.bsky.social - this scheme needs to be much better. Such a horrible place to walk & cycle.

I'm writing a book chapter on disability and active travel. I think a section will be on the unsung infrastructures of active travel for disabled people. Benches. Public toilets and changing places. Accurate and accessible information provision. What else?

London once again the top spot for the most congested city in Europe. And what makes up around 28% of morning peak time traffic? 🥁🥁🥁 The school run www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

"Providing secure, cheap & convenient cycle parking for commuters outside cities is one of the ways the Dutch have cut longer distance car commutes, cut bike theft and boosted cycling for all its benefits." we speak to @dailymail.co.uk on bike theft www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article...

The drivists of Nextdoor blaming road damage on LTNs and cycle lanes is like hitting somebody with a shovel & then blaming the doctor for not fixing their injuries

This is a good article, worth reading. Gigantic SUVs are a public health threat. Why don’t we treat them like one? The anti-smoking playbook is worth studying and learning from, and is completely applicable to oversized cars. Via @davidzipper.bsky.social in @vox.com #CarBloat

Unbelievable to see people who claim to care about social environmental justice jubilant about the vandalism of liveable streets in Tower Hamlets. They claim to support equality and to be motivated to improve bus times. Clueless hypocrites- here is what TfL experts said about removing the scheme...

17-year-long Scottish study of 82,000+ adults finds commuting by bike reduces your risk of: • early death • hospitalisation for any reason • cardiovascular disease • cancer mortality • treatment for mental health problems. Yeah, but those LTNs and bike lanes are *really* annoying.

📢 Disappointing court news today, but the fight for safer streets continues! With support from schools, GPs, Met Police & TfL, our legal team advises there are grounds for appeal. Can you help us raise £30k? www.crowdjustice.com/case/save-ou...
