absolutely!! (hfkudhk i am a sucker for slice of life/realistic fiction so silver spoon was so good for that lol.)

i have some thoughts on her later work wrt that (i would not say she applied this philosophy equally, silver spoon for example is not that.) but FMA is absolutely good for that!

friend of mine used FMA as an example of good characterization a few months back, explaining that you could pluck any of these characters out of the story and make an entire story about them (the whole idea that they are the main character of their own story separately) FMA is so good for that.

and being on the shit end of some bad faith critique in the past also helps me value the really good concrit coming from a good place. (but i will also still cry abt it a little, but the frustration is a fantastic motivator.)

something that helps me is that i can also disagree with the editor, pick and choose what critique will actually help me rather then take in the whole thing. because its still all subjective and taste, especially art and writing.

its gotten far more cutthroat in the hobby sphere wrt monetization. with people making careers outta what was just fun for them like a decade ago. i don't like the gentrification of these spaces, and if you can get out you fucking should.

not just that, but twitter and instagram has made art so fucking homogenized? whatever happened to transparent gif animations? blinkies and buttons? gifsets? customized layouts beyond a banner on your profile page? art has to look a certain way now and i'm not here for it. its boring.

and capitalism has forced so many artists to make fan art their primary income (mainly because they are disabled and unable to hold down any other type of job.) and i would be remiss to consider my privilege (in that: i have a full time job) in my ability to just drop off of twitter like i did.

but that also made me question what kinds of internet spaces i wanna be in and that kind of shit? having to force yourself to draw everyday to stay relevant? that is not joyful to me whatsoever. especially because this is NOT my career.
