I’ve barely heard anything from Sanders in comparison to AOC

like what interest do NY and New England have in a war with Canada? none, and the northeast is among the most vulnerable regions in such a situation too.

honestly i think it's like 50/50 we see attempted secessions if he actually tries to invade

Tyranny requires your fear and your silence and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage. So gather your justice and humanity, Illinois, and do not let despair overcome us when our country needs us the most.

It took the Nazis one month, three weeks, two days, eight hours, and 40 minutes to dismantle a constitutional republic. When the fire starts to burn, every good person better be ready to man a post with a bucket of water if you want to stop it from raging out of control.

My oath is to the Constitution of our state and of our country. We don’t have kings in America – and I don’t intend to bend the knee to one. I am not speaking up in service to my ambitions — but in deference to my obligations.

I'm watching alongside Illinoisans what's happening in our country right now with dread. The authoritarian playbook is laid bare: they point to a group of people who don't look like you and tell you to blame them for your problems. What comes next?

This happened because burrito taxi expensive and Fox News rotted grandpa’s brain and the barista wore an they/them name tag once and women happened and the world’s richest man craved the approval of Nazi teenagers and people forgot 2020 wasn’t in 2021.

Frankly it’s a term that’s used for a lot of bad ideas and I have spoken with a lot of people who mean by it a maximally anti-industrial and pseudo-primitivist politics. I’m sorry if that doesn’t describe you, it wasn’t my intention to miscategorize.

suffice it to say we have a fundamental disagreement on the facts here which is extremely unlikely to be bridged on bluesky. we would still have major problems with the climate if we stopped all emissions tomorrow and degrowth is not a solution to them.

I am not talking about climate engineering, I am talking about how wealthy countries are going to house and care for climate refugees and supply foreign aid. Declining economic growth is going to make those things immensely more difficult to implement.

I don’t see an option to course correct that does, because it’s a political nonstarter which implies avoidable mass suffering (at least depending on how you define it)

tbf I don’t see how a criticism of pure research as such doesn’t extend to a critique of industrial society as a whole at some point, which I personally am not willing to make.

The only article that any newspaper should be writing about the potential annexation of Canada is "Annexing Canada would be a war crime on the scale of Hitler invading Poland, which would be the duty of every American to resist"

to the degree that the overton window exists, it has largely allowed elite media institutions to play footsie with thoroughly unamerican and illiberal ideas in an attempt to make them more palatable to the mainstream and it has largely been successful

apparently some versions of this claim say that COBOL actually _uses_ ISO 8601 which seems chronologically extremely unlikely given the age of the COBOL likely powering SSA

been wondering about that for a while, thanks for actually doing the legwork! looks like this blog post dug into it a bit too: iter.ca/post/1875-ep...
