My previous setup was “a keepass file in Dropbox”. Keepass was great too but no sync. It felt great deleting Dropbox when I was done migrating too, because I sure wasn’t using that for anything else.

This is or may not feel helpful for you rn, but (speaking as a cranky engineer who gets driven nuts by modern shitty software) Bitwarden is seriously a delight. I pay them a small yearly for their sync service (to support dev really) and it’s flawless thus far (2 years)

It’s the difference between wanting a banana and getting a banana vs getting a banana but also a gorilla is holding it for you and also the whole jungle

It’s not misleading, he’s saying that sometimes it’s well worth being surgical about that one call to e.g windows.SetConsoleMode if that’s all you actually need.

I popped in to ask him if he wanted his name forever associated with terrorist attacks. Nfi if he'll see it or if it will spark both neurons but we live in hope.

Loving this phrasing BTW "intentional manufacture of inconveniences" is perfect. Interfluidity remains one of the most consistently eloquent blogs i have ever read.

i'm not convinced it isn't a setup anyway atm

Oh that crash was an act of God and, what i'm saying to you is He moves in mysterious ways.

Engineers? Thats the guys we laid off because, what i'm saying to you is, what i'm saying is they were talking all the time about unproductive stuff like 'safety' and 'maintenance', it was hard to understand stuff so we just moved past it.

Timezones are for humans. Programmers: suck it up.

What about meetings a year in the future when 6 months from now the govt chooses to move daylight savings?
comment in response to post
This is amazing
comment in response to post
I got shot down once spectacularly because I went on a rant about abolishing timezones and someone said "but people like getting up in the morning Beau"

And they're flat out wrong. Utc is fine for time *stamps* but future time is political
comment in response to post
Use utc for time STAMPS (now, and in the past, unambiguous no matter what) Use the user's directly recorded intent for future times, or you'll be in a world of hurt always getting it wrong for them when the time comes. Future time is political, not unambiguous.
comment in response to post
"Booking appointments a year in the future through politicians moving daylight savings" has entered the chat. Ie no, you decidedly do not "just use utc all the time"

Builders ignoring semantics = only doing half the job, probably why so many moved from e.g. protobuf to grpc. Also this github.com/oddy/b3
