In any other time, an Onion headline in which Area Guy accidentally becomes president. Now in the NYT.

He stood there on Jan 20 and falsely mouthed the words to protect and defend our Constitution. Asked now on Meet the Press if he thinks he needs to uphold the Constitution, he says, “I don’t know.” Translation: No. Woe to America and the utter failure of putting this man back in our Oval Office.

Thanks to @nopeneighbors.bsky.social for this:

This is an obvious point, but cannot overstated. There is an enormous difference between deporting someone - where they get off a plane as a free citizen in their home country AND FUNNELING THEM INTO A BRUTAL PRISON FROM WHICH THEY HAVE NO CHANCE OF EVER EMERGING!!!

Typical

This is the beginning and the end of it. #FascismGrowsInAmerica

Is Garcia still alive?

If you are in Missouri, please call your state senator and demand they vote in line with the will of the people.

So the head of MS-13 was apprehended outside of a Home Depot while looking for work? Huh. Times are tough in gang land I guess.

Every now and then it hits me that this isn’t just about 1 inhuman act or another, but a bigger picture. That the entire democratic experiment in America is falling apart in front of our eyes. It’s historic in that sense. Which then makes me wonder why all media stories aren’t framed this way.

We should all be very concerned about how the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia plays out. Senator Chris Murphy explains very clearly why:

Where are all the people who were defending the Second Amendment but have been silent about the First? Loud voices about government tyranny but now that we actually have it ….crickets.

Fascism is here. Due process is dead. The Supreme Court is a hollow husk.

I want to pay my taxes. I don't ever complain about taxes funding basic services for the American people. I feel absolutely sick today knowing our taxes this year are 1. Buying spots in torture gulags for innocent men and 2 lining the pockets of billionaires while our communities suffer.

I’ve been retired for 15 years & a former shitter user. I quit a little while after he took over. I’m not going back. Using government funds to try to prop up a business he ran to the ground is pure corruption.

Imagine POTUS nodding yes while a self described dictator from a country smaller than Washington state refuses to return to USA a man sent to his country in error. Even tho USA taxpayers are paying the bill for this prisoner. The big story is about the wanna be dictator not the self described one.

Wonder how much Muskrat had to pay to Shitler for this.

I agree. In a functioning democracy, we would already be in the midst of an impeachment trial.

An innocent man, picked up by “mistake,” must not be allowed to rot in an El Salvadorian jail. Mr. President. Obey the courts. Obey our Constitution. Bring him home immediately.

I'm not going to stop saying this. We need to stop calling it "deporting." It may not always be fair or humane, but deportation has a process. And it means you're sent back to where you came from. These people are being trafficked and sold to slave prisons. Not deported.

Excellent reminder. The Tr*mp regime swiftly negotiated the release and return to the US of two men accused of rape and sex trafficking. But they can't return an innocent man who they are paying to keep in a torture prison?

Sending anyone from this country to a foreign gulag, particularly without a court hearing, should rightfully end a presidency. Full stop.

if we want to rebuild american institutions and earn back the world’s trust after this we cannot settle for half-measures. lots of people need to go prison. lots more need to be permanently stripped of wealth and power.

It’s time for Congress to reign in the Mad King. These tariffs haven’t even hit for real and the world is off the rails. Politically, it’s helpful to Dems, but this is why I’m not a good politician b/c I care too deeply about the harm on all people, even on those that hate my very existence.

We need to start new TV networks!

BREAKING: Court documents reveal that the government used a scoring system to decide deportations, considering things like tattoos and social media activity. Records obtained by the ACLU suggest this system unfairly singled out Venezuelan deportees, according to families and lawyers.
