It's not that simple. There is a core ideology debate of the role of government and whether they can or even should reign in corporate greed. Many believe that's the natural order. Others want to fix that.

Technically their pay isnt all that much considering the costs of doing the job. Renting a place in DC and flights back and forth. Any international travel and fancy dinners and such all cost too. There's a reason lobbyists are able to influence so much with money and gifts.

No, no it's not. Just over a 100 years ago there was the Ottoman Empire. At that time, in that Israethat is disputed, jews made up only 1/3 of the population and were not persecuted directly for their religion or ethnicitwerbut they didn't have state sponsorship of their religion either.
